Soldier Ranks affect Hits?
I'm playing a game on Commander level now and have noticed something interesting. The higher ranked soldiers rarely ever miss a high percentage shot whereas lower ranked soldiers with the same aim tend to miss more frequently.

I have a LT whom I trained up from rookie level as a sharpshooter. I sent her on numerous covert ops to increase her aim to 101 - the highest of any soldier. Yet in battle she tends to miss or just graze on the same high percentage shots that my Colonels hit regularly for more damage.

Are there other factors to hitting targets than aim? I'm not talking about a single shot here. Rather I've been watching her through four missions missing or grazing shot after shot. Point blank shots.

Higher aim the more likely you'll hit, but its still rng, a rookie will hit a 80% shot the same amount of times as colonel badass. However in commander, you actually have a hidden aim bonus, first miss coffers 10% extra hit, second will give you 30%.

Besides that its all down to RNGesus smiling upon you.

I get RNG. I'm just wondering if rank has something to do with a LT doesn't hit as many targets as a Col who has 10 less aim when all other factors are equal (gun with same upgrades, type of enemy, etc...). It seems to be a pattern. I wouldn't post about it if it was just random RNG stuff as I don't lke to complain about that.

Rank does literally nothing for hit chance. However rng is rolled BEFORE your turn, so a hit or miss is more based on what "turn" you are on than your characters base aim.

Confirmation Bias and/or Bad luck and/or Streaking (good sign of randomness)

There is no direct relationship between rank and chance to hit.

If a lower rank or higher rank soldier each has a shot with the same chance to hit, then they each will hit the same proportion of the time in the long run. Rank has no effect beyond the few points of aim you get on ranking up.

Graze is also a different mechanic to hit, if you fire at an alien with dodge and have less than 100% hit chance then a fixed proportion of your hits are converted to half damage grazes.

It is conceivable that if counting grazes and misses vs. hits that you had different units firing on different alien types, as only a minority can dodge at all.
