Steam link, WotC and Xbox One Controller

I just downloaded WotC today, disabled all mods. I'm trying to play over Steam Link but I can't enable controller support.
I can use the controller to navigate to options and interface, and switch from mouse to controller. At this point the icons change so that I need to press X to save and exit. Pressing X instead moves the menu selection upwards, i.e. leaving me no way to save the setting.

I've disabled all mods, I even ran a verification even though it's only been a few hours since I downloaded it. Initially I had the issue where Steam controller support was enabled and meant that the interface option was greyed out, but I fixed that and was left with the issue above.

Anyone got any ideas?

I bought the DLC today and tried. No luck. The only way it saw my my Xbox 360 controller was if I had the receiver connected by usb directly to my PC. So this kind of defeats the purpose of steam link.

I can play any other game but not this one. And I don’t want to play it via steam controller or m/k again...

I think your problem is that xcom 2 doesn't really recognize the steam controller as a controller. It probably thinks of the steam controller as just another mouse and keyboard and as such, doesn't have the steam controller buttons "bound" to the controller. You'll have to go into the overlay and bind keyboard buttons to buttons on your controller as you like.

To clarify, neither of us are using a steam controller, and the steam controller config (at least for me) is disabled at the Steam level.

Unfortunately that doesn't help, perhaps because of the Steam Link.

I love these tips, thank you so much! Once you have these settings configured you need to use the touch mouse in steam link to go into the game settings Gameplay > Input mode and select Controller. Then you are good to go! The default is mouse and the controller will REFUSE to work until you change this.
