XCOM 2
Alternative Mod Launcher broken? (Title changed back*.)
With a friend's help I just installed it from a link I was given on another discussion thread.
https://github.com/X2CommunityCore/xcom2-launcher

I linked it to the mod directory like the instructions said, checked all the mods I wanted to activate (a mod list that worked just fine on the old vanilla launcher), and clicked the "Launch War of the Chosen" button.

The game icon appeared on the task bar as it does when it's loading, and I waited. For about an hour and a quarter. The game never managed to load. Hovering the curser over it on the task bar continued to only preview a black screen, and clicking on it crashed it.

I also tried setting the mod list using the AML, then launching the game through the new vanilla launcher. Same result.

Is there some other special thing I need to do?

(*Still using the original thread with the original intro so that the context of what's been happening up to this point is easily to hand.)

Try manually creating it.

Or copy it from

The launcher started the game so it's doing its job. It sounds like a problem with the mods you're using. Can you upload a copy of your launch.log to pastebin.com and post a link here?

launch.log?

Where do I find that?
You have to set the AML to admin permissions and than it will launch. Also don't ignore the errors.

I'm having no issue on my end, just installed it.

The mods load into the AML with no conflicts, but once I launch the game. I get the same problem as if I was just launching it from the New Launcher that came out. The window will pop up, and it's just a small black square saying XCOM 2 (not responding)

That's the same one I have, except that I only get it when the AML is involved, since trying to load with just the new launcher just loads with no mods at all no matter how many or few I select.

With a bunch of help from the aforementioned friend I managed to get the AML log, this should be everything since it installed.

It looks like you have an error or conflict with "JSleezy's Repurposed Gear" mod. Disable that and see if the game runs for you.

launch.log is XCOM 2's log file. It's here
My Games\XCOM2 War of the Chosen\XComGame\Logs

As to the AML log, looks like it works fine just throws some errors on parsing some .XComMod files
WOTC_MultiplePiercings.XComMod
WOTC_JsleezysRepurposedGear.XComMod
ModularAC.XComMod

Seems to launch WotC fine:

Having found the log there, I had a quick look at it before going to post it and even with my near-nonexistent computer skills I could see that it has seemingly every soldier customisation mod in the entire list - which make up the vast majority of it and all of which were fully functional until maybe a week before the new launcher was added - flagged with errors for "missing closing parenthesis." :/

Is there anything I can do that doesn't involve removing every single cosmetic mod for a game I mostly play for the characters?

Because it really isn't worth me playing modded at all if I can't have soldier customisation mods.

There's quite a gap in launch.log between the last normal event written (Jedi class mod) and the crash. So I don't think the Jedi mod is the cause nor that whichever mod is causing the crash anticipated it and writes a relevant event.

There's a bunch of "Duplicate key index" errors, which I think mean multiple cosmetics with the same identifier.

The "Missing closing parenthesis" is sloppy on whoever's made that Star Wars uniform mod

I don't believe either of those would cause a crash though.

Double-check all your mods really are for WotC.

If that doesn't reveal the culprit then I'd recommend a binary search, see here:

Thanks so much! That binary searching thing turned up that "Utility Slot Sidearms WOTC" wasn't playing nice. I don't know enough to figure out what's wrong with it, but if the rest of the list works without it then I'll come back to it later and see if I can find if there's any one particular mod it won't run with.
