So mods do not work anymore..
Hey there! I'm asking you guys and girls, the community for help.

I haven't played XCOM2 WOTC for a long time, and Chimera Squad - while did not earn my liking at all - made me want to play XCOM2 again.
So I tried. Went through all the fuss of choosing my mods, making sure they do not conflict and...

They don't work. Not that they cause the game to crash or freeze or give me some fancy error message I'll never be able to comprehend no. They just do not load at all. (I switched to WOTC in the launcher of course). Doesn't matter if they're enabled or not, the game launches as vanilla WOTC.

I tried to launch the game with the alternative launcher (the one with the ugly but functional UI), it said no mods conflict and while I could still launch the game without mods enabled, ANY mods enabled caused the game to freeze while starting.

you have to refresh each time you launch

Steam\steamapps\common\XCOM 2\XCom2-WarOfTheChosen\Binaries\Win64\Launcher

In there you'll find a program called. ModLauncherWPF.exe

run it (you might have to run it as administrator)
Enable all your mods that you want.

Now im not sure if you have to click play or not. i did.
you'll end up ingame with most likely a big red screen just right click out of that to see the menu (which looks real different then normally) top right has character pool to see if your cosmetic mods are working if you like.
Just exit out. and start the game normally with the normal shortcut and the new ♥♥♥♥♥♥ launcher. and my mods were still enabled when i got in the game again.

This worked for me :) Life's good again

I can confirm this works, wasted a whole day reinstalling the game and mods until I found this. Cheers m8

This worked for me as well! Thanks a ton, mate! :D
Ok guys here is how to handle this mod issue.

1. go into workshop and favorite all your subscribed mods.

2. Now unsubscibe them.

3. Open the new launcher, and click on the manage mods button.

4. There is a link to the steam workshop in there. Click it, and subscribe to the mods that you have just made favorites previously.

5. Alt tab to the launcher, and hit the refresh button. Your mods will show up then toggle the enable mods.

5. Kill some freaking Aliens!!

LOL god no. I'll just wait until they fix it and play something else and suggest others not buy their games until they have resolved it.

My main issue with this is that all of my mods are already listed in the new launcher. I have them all enabled. I am launching WotC. It does not launch with the mods running. I might try this, but don't see how this will fix anything they broke tbh.
There's more to this story... All I had to do was switch the launcher to WotC and the game ran fine, including my mods. I wonder why some installs break and some don't? Is there one particular kind of mod causing the problem? A certain number of them? I never even looked at my mod list so maybe that's why??

Smokalotapotamus is right, though. This is something Firaxis needs to find and fix ASAP. Or just roll it back, unless that would do even more harm at this point.

Oh boy, i have like a 100 mods, like 50gb worth and the game needs like 5 minutes to load a level, not a chance, lol

How about this : 1. Do not update the game with ads and break previous functionality

Btw i managed to make it work by running the dev launcher thing in the binary directory, closing it and using the new stupid launcher again. Did not have to change subscriptions. Game seems wonkier than i remember (although it might be the mods, it was already having a hard time before) but it works

Firaxis says they're on it and working to fix it and considering how much it's blown up around here I don't doubt they mean it. A blunder like this hurts.

Where/when did they say this?

Or maybe "if you want it done right, do it yourself?"
Even with the MOD LAUNCHER, I'm finding that my Mods are disabled each time I run it....UNLESS I clear my config.

C:\Users\(profile name)\Documents\my games\XCOM2 War of the Chosen\XComGame\Config

I have to delete all the files in this folder and then launch XCOM2, which is slower since it has to rebuild the Config files that were just deleted.

Then go to the OPTIONS and fix my performance settings (can now only run on VIDEO > Frame Rate Smoothing = "X" and GRAPHICS > Preset = "Low") else it runs too slow to be playable.

And now I can load and play the game with the Mods working.
Try AML, Alternative Mod Launcher: http://store.steampowered.com
