How long can a game last?
How long can a game last.. that is if you have WOTC? Is there a way you can continue for as long as possible?

If you have a mod that gets rid of the avatar project it can go on forever.

Even without such a mod, the right resistance order and a little bit of luck can extend the game for ever, but it does become kind of pointless after a while, the game is designed with a difficulty fall off because the intention was that you'd get stronk, then go win the game and start again. There may be mods that can extend the fun factor past that point though, like maybe adding more powerful enemies and bigger pods that you can add in as the difficulty slumps.

There is also the Long War mod, that is always an option for longer (and harder) games.

EDIT: Or not, apparently it was never updated for compatibility with WOTC, you would have to go back to vanilla. Seems kind of odd for the developers to literally pay them to make the mod for vanilla but not to update it for the expansion, but whatever.

You need no mods, just a simple ini file edit and the game can last virtually forever, giving you extra time to figure out things and grind (level up your troops).
Basically this simple edit pushes back the Avatar doomsday countdown by a huge amount, and for me this countdown was the single most annoying "feature" of this game.

There is no limit. I had a save that was close to 3 years before i uninstalled it.

I did not change any files or used any mods.

Yes, that's modding.

Forever WITHOUT mods. You can just remove avatar progress with the ring facility.

Unfortunetly, there is no point. When you get everything you want and all abilities, game becomes so easy even if entire map comes marching at you staight at the first turn.

Yeah, I would have to agree personally. If it just increases the time, it doesn't really do all that much for you, it only really works if it adds content to fill that increased time, but the OP can at least try it and see how it works out, maybe they will end up enjoying it in spite of that problem..

Game looses most of its addictive appeal if theres nothing to research/enhance anymore. A lot of the fun is progression in terms of better tech, better weapons, better equipment, breakthroughs, doom pressure etc.

Playing random missions with no progression would be wqy too boring for me. Stretch the game too much in the end and its gonna get stale very quickly. Least for me.

20 hours, that's how long my first game on PS4 lasted before I decided I was losing and quit to try again. :steammocking: In actual terms to get a successful game, about 80-120 hours depending on completeness and difficulty mode.

When you have WOTC, you have selection of playing vanilla or WOTC when you load the game. You can used mods for both just by enabling them for what ever version you want to play. Currently I'm playing LW2, but at anytime I can start and continue to play WOTC. In other words, the best of both worlds. LW2 can almost go on forever, but at some point you will get tired of doing all the same types of missions and just want to end it. The best part of LW2 is you can have multiple squads. I currently have 8 squads of 6 troops each and can choose the squad for the particular mission.

Well, what I meant was he couldn't use the long war mod in addition to WOTC. Since it was never updated for compatibility Alestair can only play one or the other, and so the long war mod wouldn't work for what he wants because he was specifically asking about how long a game can last with WOTC.

@ WolfWhiteFire, I know what you meant, but was just giving the OP more information that both can be played by choosing which one you want to play as both games are saved in different folders. Choice is good.... And there are many great mods for both versions.

Yes you can change difficulty. I think you need to be in the Avenger for the option to show up in the menu, not in a tactical mission.
