Have you tried ordering your soldiers to go through that clear path. I mean you can see what path they take.

Yup, take that as a good lesson learned and pay close attention to your soldiers path routing.

It's just part of the game. Al most 800hrs in and I still make that mistake periodically.

The UI tells you when a soldier will catch on fire. Pay attention.

Hold ctrl to give way points.

They'll avoid it if they can reach the destination without going through it. If they're running through it then it means that the game can't find a path to reach your destination in the time displayed (if it's within blue move range, it went through the fire so you only use 1 action point rather than both, if it's within yellow move range then it can't find a path at all). It also warns you about the fact that they're going to run through fire.
If you don't want them to run through the fire, you're either going to need to pick something closer so that they can reach it while avoiding the fire, or use waypoints to make them go around the fire and use both action points to reach their destination.

Your soldiers will avoid the fire if you leave them with enough move to do so, but they ultimately only go where you tell them, so it is entirely your fault. Every bad thought you just had about your soldiers, actually applies to you.

That. You can literally tell your soldier to move at specific spots instead of a straight line to your target, if you wish to.

Yeah, pathing can also be useful to avoid overwatch or popping pods by staying out of sight.

Holy cow. I've finished the game twice now and I didn't realise. I should have read the manual first.

There's something I've always wondered. When the soldiers are engulfed in fire - is it best to keep them still, or move them?

It seems as if they don't actually catch on fire until you move them *out* of the fire, which doesn't make sense, but I haven't had a chance to test it because I don't want to burn my soldiers to a crisp.

Depends, if they can't path out without getting the burning status, and they can contribute to the current engagement where they are, then just do that. If you're lucky, the fire will burn it self out befre the game decides to set them on fire! If they can't contribute, or no current engagement, then do a blue move to cover and immediate hunker to put it out, since you avoid starting a turn on fire, then you avoid taking damage entirely.

It just don't matter as they will catch fire anyways. In fact, if you make them run thru the fire and "heal" them right away they will be "cured" of the fire without losing HP and it doesn't count as an injury. If you let them stay there they'll suffer one HP loss during the transition turn.

Note that hunkering removing burning is a mechanic that they introduced in WotC. If you're playing vanilla this won't work unless you have a mod that makes it so.

Been so long since I played vanilla I forgot that wasn't in there from the start! Stay still and cross your fingers the fire goes out before you flame-on then in Vanilla :steammocking:

Or put them out with Medical Protocol.
But then again that would mean you don't have Combat Protocol so that ain't right.

Does standard medikit usage not deal with fire then? If you're just talking about the range issue, well if the stand still and hope doesn't work, then can move to meet whoever has the medkit at that point...
