Personally even when playing ironman I make a physical backup of my save game at the beginning of each in game month. Not to cheat with, but simply because the game is too buggy and stuff like this can happen (among many other game breaking bugs)
Being honest with yourself to not cheat while still having a backup to guard against game bugs is far less frustrating than trusting the game to not screw up occasionally
But funny, how a save game just vanishes. Not even sure if I have ever experienced taht in other games. I might have but if it happened then it was a long time ago. Save game just ceased to exist.
Ironman deletes save games each turn, it's part of what makes it ironman
If it crashes before putting down the new save, of course it will be gone
That's the actual structure of ironman, it deletes your save every turn like clockwork by design
That it happened to crash and bug out before laying down the next turns save point is the glitch, but the old save point being gone is expected behavior
The last time I did a legendary ironman run I had at least 3 major game glitch/crash issues that would have prevented me from finishing it
I've made a habit of manually copying a save file at the beginning of each game month, open your save location and copy it to a backup folder
As long as you don't abuse this and don't use it for casual reloading you can keep your honor in tact playing ironman properly but without as much risk of having the game screw you over with random glitches
I don't mind losing due to my own mistakes, but I'm not going to let the game waste 50 hours of my time with a crash/glitch
Try for example Recuva - it's free and fairly good.
I apologize for reviving an old post, but this makes so much sense. Thank you for describing it this way. I just lost my ironman save as well and i went from frustrated and irritated to "ooooh. makes sense" and being fine restarting as "honestman" as someone mentioned.
I just wanted to say thank you, it made a difference in how i will experience the next save and probably save me many hours of gameplay and frustrations in the future c:
Been a staunch (mostly
So I dont Ironman games.
And before anyone comes in with the "just back up your saves before every play manually bro", then it's no longer Ironman, and I might as well just play normally. Because either way requires I use willpower to not reload if I screw up and die. One takes 30 seconds more of work to reload, but that's nothing.
The option exists either way and it's always willpower. It's really not that hard to make backups and then only use them if the game is at fault and not you.
