When the chosen show up in a mission, any mission timers are paused while you're engaged in combat with them.
Also note that the resistance warrior pack and the anarchy's children DLCs are cosmetics only.
Ah okay, was wondering if it just made things feel even more rushed or not. More means of slowing the avatar is always nice.
Handful of people in the pricing post seem to suggest that it adds essentially a whole games worth of new content, not entrely sure how that's possible with what they were advertising it as.
Shen's Gift and WoTC are easily recommended as good DLC that's worth money.
Anarchy's Children only has cosmetics and if you like Mad Max look vs the paramilitary look then it's probably right up your alley.
Although, if you can wait until Winter sale, you might find it more agreeable to buy all the DLC content without breaking the bank.
May try Alien Hunters, and I normally would wait for a sale but~ Winter being 4 months off I kinda have my doubts I'd still be on Xcom 2 by then considering how much I've been playing it. lol
Thanks.
The Alien 'Kings & Queens' have a huge amount of health, and devastating attacks. They also get an attack after every action you take, so if one of your guys moves - they get an attack, reload, they get an attack. There is no tactic whatsoever. When they appear, you can choose which of your guys take a turn. They then get a turn, and that sodliers turn is gone, so you have to use someone else - even if they can't see him. Even going to overwatch gives then a turn. The only thing that can work is freeziing them. Can work, but on the Last King, it froze him for 1 turn, meaning it was a complete waste of time freezing him. My first encounter with the Archon KIng, I ended up finishing the mission with 4 Soldiers, and carrying 2 out. He has an even more powerful version of Blazing Pinions. You only have the oportunity to move one from under them(if one under them still had a turn), and just moving from under them gives him another go. It then triggers, and those under it become unconcious, even with power armor.
You do get some unique weapons, and whether they help, I do not know - I didn't build them.
Seems strange to add something to a strategy game, for whch there is no strategy. The only thing you can do, is if you have any kind of shot take it - and take it from where you are, you cannot move, or it's their turn.
If you kill them, you get some pretty cool Armor. I did Alien Hunters once. I wont ever do it again.
I personally found Alien Hunters the best of the two story DLC. The rulers really mean you actually have to think and plan when encountering them. If you have WoTC they have been toned down significantly and are more just bullet sponges.
Shen's Gift has the better story and mission but the new unit is a bit lack luster and althea DLC doesn't have as much impact on a play through.
The other two DLC are purely cosmetic items for your soldiers so if you like the style go for it.
-----
WoTC is not a DLC it's an actual expansion of the game hence the price tag.
Yes it's well worth it as many people have outlines in many threads.
Explain this strategy, and explain how you prepare, when you don't even know they are in a map? Freeze worked for 1 turn on Archon king for me, so a complete waste of time doing it, might as well have taken a shot.
DLC is utter crap in my opinion.
Guess I'll try it out on my 2nd playthrough.
Then you have Shen's last gift, a very intersting mission that has some beautiful story elements, a new area, some rather sad cutscenes, cameos of a character from the first game, references, and you even get to bring Lily Shen herself on the mission =D.
The third would be Alien hunters, this one introduces a huge mystery, new tough boss enemies to hunt you, a story that involves characters from the previous games and more. I just started this dlc, but i LOVE it. Btw, you get to bring John Bradford himself, the big man with the plan along for the initial mission.
They have challenges, mystery, story, references and all in all are great experiences!
You don't exactly prepare for an alien ruler. You just have to prepare that they might show up on your mission.
Freezing any of the rulers is an ineffective strat unless you use Stasis on them provided you go the psi route.
Barring that, DoTs (burns/ acid/ poison) will shred their HP as they take damage every time they take an action. Bringing the hunting weapons confer additional bonus (chance to stun with the crossbow/throwing axe incredibly useful if it procs giving your troops an extra hit without retaliation) and guaranteed damage through Shadowfall skill with the Shadowkeeper.
Speccing your overall troop comp for max damage (double-shots, lightning hands (free actions don't trigger Rulers iirc,)) helps tremendously.
The rest is positioning and hoping the ruler doesn't run into you while engaged with another pod.
Also not to mention all those options works super well against normal aliens.
