XCOM 2

Covert Action, Negate Risk by Intel failed.
I just had an Ambush occur in my latest Covert Action Mission, even though I selected Negate Risk (by Intel).

Does negate not actually mean negate in Xcom2 or are Covert Action Missions bugged sometimes?

im pretty sure you prevented the capture.
Hell ambush actually isn't THAT terrible.
i had a soldier get two rank ups because of the promotion from the ambush and the promotion reward from the covert action itself.
Let them send more bodies; we've got a pile stashed away for you. and some for making new things...

Im not far into the campaign yet and all missions so far display only 1 risk type. Since it could only be one risk type, and that risk type should have been negated, I don't see how any risk event should have occured.

What you suggest would make sense if the mission had a chance for two risk types and I just remembered countering the wrong one; but that wasn't the case.

Ya the ambush wasn't hard, since both units had mobility pcs and were concealed. I was just surprised since I was expecting the risk event to be negated.

Covert Ops can have several risks, like medium capture , High ambush chance.

Why would you even spend resources preventing an ambush? Ambushes are easy. They're not worth resources (ESPECIALLY intel). Sending a soldier for it is fine though (especially if it's one of the ones where it requires a soldier and a scientist, because then the added soldier can be used for the covert ops speed bonus from bond level 2)

First time playing WotC (so I had no idea what to expect). Secondly, despite playing on Legend difficulty I've got a ridiculous amount of Intel and Supplies. I skullmine every mission.

Having said that, ya next time a Negate Ambush comes up using Intel I probably won't worry about it. =)

Legendary more or less compensates you for your success with more intel/supplies as needed due to the costs of things to contact new regions as well as black market costs.
also don't get me started on the alloys and elerium you'll need after mag weapons.

I didn't have that problem. I've got all mag weapon, +grenade launcher, and all special weapon (boltcaster, etc.) upgrades and still sitting at 227 alloy 139 elerium 340 intel and 227 supplies (it was 627 but I finally got a cpt ranger and cpt sharpshooter so dumped 400 supplies for the GTS upgrades).

My main complaint, although I'm not sure if its due to Legendary or WotC since this is my first playthrough with both is that everything takes sooooooo long. 24 days to research mag weapons with 3 scientists, WTF? ...same with injuries, 40 days recovery time (almost 20 days for minor injuries). Some rooms are taking 98 days to excavate!!! Nothing seems that much harder, just longer. =/

What? Yes there is. Applying the optional resources/soldier will negate the stated risk, reducing it to 0.

Gimmethegepgun is correct, if you pay something to negate, ambush, capture or anything else is 100% negated.

Nah you are wrong graystripe and insulting People when they explain something isnt very nice. Like i Said before,op probably negated a capture and not ambush and was confused.

I haven't experienced that bug? either.

Maybe you really only negated soldiers getting injured or captured. We prolly all check multiple missions and think a bit, specially when you really gotta think on who you can spare and if you can pay any intel or what have you for the mission and the negates. Maybe you switched back and forth and remembered the risks from another mission?

Or it really was a bug. So far, and im 99,5% sure, that it always worked as intended in my runs. And Ive played wotc quite a bit. Prolly few hundred hours.

Thanks for the feedback.

My current guess is that there may have been a dark event active that would allow for ambush to occur. During my last monthly eval a new dark event that allows for a soldier to be captured was listed as possibly upcoming; so it makes me wonder if I had received a dark event for ambush chance and didn't notice it being active.

If one of those dark event things was active during that particular mission it would explain why a mission with a single risk type (negated) would still trigger a risk event (ambush in this case). Thats my current guess anyway.
