XCOM 2
Can someone explain when I would get spotted. Advice on this scenario:
I want to move Specialist next to the VIP.

He'll be getting no nearer to the guys up on the building. Right now, I assume he can't see them - as he has no target. What are the rules on getting spotted. Is there a distance? I've heard mention of 17 tiles, but definitely been spotted further away than that.

Also, what are the rules for getting spotted in Concealment. Is it if you get Flanked, and are in their zone of awareness. If you don't get flanked, you can sit tight and hope your squad can kill them?

I would like to know these things. Here, it doesn't seem like I'm tight on time(even though evac point got moved. Compromised somehow, and now evac barely looks like it's inside the map.

If I'd be spotted if I moved, then I'll wait till eveyone has a full turn. I'd also like to move some nearer, but again - not sure when they'd get spotted.

Well I moved him next to The VIP, and he didn't get spotted. Still would love to know how it works though.

How do you see those enemies? Is it a battlescanner? If you have a concealed scout you can check where your soldiers get vision if you move them there, aliens Seems to have have one or 2 tiles longer vision range so basicly you check where you soldier had vision Of Alien and then move them 3 Times further away from soldier vision range to be safe.
I dont Know aliens Exact vision range but thats how i avoid getting spotted with none concealed Units.

Thanks,

Yeah, the nearest soldier in the picture is a concealed Scout, behind that pillar. I was thinking the threat would be more up the street when I put him there. He's the only one that has sight on them.

How do I check where soldiers get vision?

Its like red crosshair symbol left Of Alien healthbar that you can see if when you have vision. i use it all the time to see If My soldier have vision before i move them to a certain spot to shoot.

Ahhh, wonderful. I never knew that. That's going to be a help. Many times I've moved thinking I'd have a shot, and I haven't.

Just tried it.

I just had mission to destroy alien relay. 2 Sharpshooters on a roof, and Ranger has eyes on it through a window.

Sharpshooter takes a shot, and nearly destroys it. The other one can't see it. They're all in pretty good positions, so put them all on Overwatch, to let her finish the job next turn.

Next turn, she can't see it. She's not moved, Transmitter hasn't moved, no-one has moved, yet now she no longer has sight on it. Had to finish it with Specialist.

Strange.

Losing concealment happens if you move into the detection range of an enemy, non-Resistance civilian, or lamppost, perform a loud action with the soldier (most abilities, breaking a window, or running through a closed door), being flanked when a concealment zone is moved to encompass the tile they're on, or completing certain objectives (usually the objective hack of a mission).

Enemies have a 17-tile radius that is their detection zone. If you can see the enemy with a soldier then this radius will be shown to you. As before, if you move into one of the detection tiles (whether or not you knew they were there) you will be detected. If the enemy moves, the tiles will follow them, and if they encompass a soldier they will be revealed unless they are in cover relative to the source of the detection tile.

The abilities that DON'T break concealment are the ones that have no offensive component: reloading, battle scanner/scanner procotol, open/close door, overwatch, hunker. Hacking will also not reveal the soldier unless it fails (if you hack a lamppost successfully it will remove the detection radius), though an objective hack (including the non-essential door hack for rescuing VIPs) will reveal (but the reward from the "rescue a captured XCOM operative" mission's door hack is that you remain unrevealed so obviously it doesn't). Haywire protocol'ing a mechanical unit to take control of it (or gaining control of a unit through a lamppost hack reward) will result in the unit you took being flanked within a detection radius, so you'll lose squad concealment right away if you do that, but shutdown won't (I think).

Also a few actions have 100% reveal chances if a Reaper performs them. Completing an objective action (planting X4 or marking a crate for extraction) and I think using them to remove Daze from someone (I've only seen it once and I can't exactly remember if it was 100% or not but I think it was). Breaking a window, busting down a door, or entering a detection zone will also always reveal. And obviously Banish, which says that that's the case. Throwing or shooting a Claymore never has any reveal chance (and in fact if you do that it won't break squad concealment either, so something just randomly explodes and everyone sits around twiddling their thumbs).

Some terrain might have been destroyed, altering it. Namely, what they're taking cover behind. If they were behind high cover or on the end of a low cover segment they'll be leaning to the side to shoot, which may have a shot against it when the spot they're standing on doesn't.

I use gotcha mod and it improved my pod-trigger rate a lot.

When I started actually paying attention to where soldiers have vision of what and vice versa I sometimes didnt have vision on the entire pod cause part of with was blocked. Moved a soldier wo where I thought it was clear but didnt anticipate the enemy I dint have los of in that pod. That enmies detection range was ike one tile further than the ones I had los with.

If you watch out for that then you can always move - as somebody already mentioned here - like 2 - 3 tiles in front of that detection barrier and concentrate your firepower for the following possible overwatch if they e.g. move into your direction.

Did the same though. In the beginning I didnt even notice that symbol or paid much attention to who might see me and who doesnt.
