Im worried about Bradford
In the legacy missions he says his memory is sketchy but he cant remember seeing faceless ( wouldnt you remember standing next to someone and them turning into a massive jello monster with huge claws ? ), purifiers and the old style sectoids also he says in one of the missions hes genuinly excited to get a drink, has Bradford got a drink problem ? how long before he decides to take the avenger for a joy ride under a bridge ! no wonder we lost

Yeah, hearing Bradford talk during the missions, most of the enemies that are a "surprise" to XCOM should've been known entities.

Early onset dementia

Bradford: "OMG what is that, somsthing new?"
Soldier: "Er, we killed a bunch of them when we were between homes"
Bradford:"Are you sure? I don't remember"

Bradford:"Wait - who are you? Are you the commander?"
Soldier:"No sir, it is rookie Robinson. I joined after hearing your stories about the faceless."
Bradford:"Ahh, yes I know a story about the Faceless, want to hear it?"
Soldier:"Ahh, sir, I think I just said you already told me that one."
Bradford:"I miss that damn sweater."
Soldier:"Umm, the one you are wearing now, sir?"
Bradford:"Holy - It's just like my sweater. Seeing this reminds me of that time I first met the Faceless. I'll tell you about that some time."
Soldier:". . . . Yes, Sir."

I've not finished it yet, but I think Bradford tells his story after the events of the main XCOM2 campaign, and he's making it up as he goes along, at least the parts about the types of enemies he and his team encountered and weapons they used. Because there is no way he has personally encountered every type of enemy there is and then just forgot about them. Like at the end of the first mini-campaign Bradford and his team get to fight 3 avatars while wielding a Chosen weapon they happen to find earlier. I cannot for the life of me believe that this and the main story could possibly both be canon at the same time.

Or its not Bradford its a faceless deep undercover either way as much as i appreciate the free DLC the immersion was kind of ruined by Bradfords story, half the fun of xcom for me was the oh crap whats that reactions

Yeah, he comes across as a crazy old man. "In my day, we fought the same aliens, and we didn't complain about it. And, we didn't waste time researching aliens to figure out how to use their technology against them. We just decided we needed a mimic beacon and made it."

I figure it's Bradford telling his grandkids. What's a little harmless exaggeration?

Alcohol induced dementia from hitting the sauce hard while in hiding for 20 years in between games.

Some sort of Korsakoff's that applies to retrograde amnesia or something. Like he confabulates about the period when he was incredibly drunk the whole time.

Definitely an unreliable narrator.

I'm worried about him too. He's been running around shirtless in assless hot pants for the whole time. This is from his memories right? So he's remembering himself down to what he was wearing, right? He can't remember Avatars but he can remember the colour coordinated leather hot pants and glistening chest?

Bradford, we need to have a little talk..

(Also may be a bug because I have every customisation pack setting at 0% and its still randomising their gear each mission. I guess Bradford got a little unhinged after he lost that sweater. IF I CAN'T HAVE WHAT I WANT, YOU DON'T GET WHAT YOU WANT!)

Bradford is a hunk, why wouldn't want him running around shirtless in hot pants?

i'm surprised no one else became a functional alcoholic after witnessing the events that transpired before XCOM2. What's mostly unbelievable about the XCOM series is the pluck and blinding optimism of the entire human operation.

My own explaination: The memorie retell was basically Bradford bragging to the commander and exaggerated a lot.

After finishing Lazarus I think it's safe to say... he's gonna be alright now :)
