Only once i managed to build it before i was landed, the rest are either too late or when i build it, Avenger never had to land making it pointless, or its at such point in the game where most of my soldiers are Colonels or Brigadiers so the turrets are pointless.
But now I research plasma weapons and the last choosen is falling... no turret breakdowhn so far. -.-
Few moments later i got a mission about salvaging a UFO resistance managed to disable.
I try to prioritize doing a guerilla op where you have to hack a thing on a train, since those seem to be the best place to find turrets and still collect corpses.
About how often do the chosen try to attack the avenger?
Extra turrets do tend to help if you wind up with a Chosen on your doorstep. Their variant of the Avenger Defense mission is a step up from the regular one.
Yes, but it sort of depends on the difficulty, mods you play with and stage of the game. At the begining any help is appreciated, but the more skilled soldiers you have the less you need it.
Chosen in my campaign have a tendency to die before getting to 100%, more like 60-70% is the end of the line as i assail their strongholds.
So...i have to yet witness Chosen lead attack on Avenger but from what i heard they bring some kind of massive cannon that sieges the Avenger and you need to disable it before Avenger is destroyed. So yeah, in that case, turrets would help to compensate for the soldiers sent to the attack.
I would say this, if you can get it early, buy it and invest upgrades and an engineer.
In late game, dont buy unless you have nothing else to construct.
So, luck is what matters....
But there is NO reason to NOT kill the Chosen, they will grow in power overtime and they will sabotage your research projects or degrade your income.
Tbh I really hate that you can just rush to kill the Chosen and not have tod eal with them for most of the game... Kinda ruins the whole "war of the chosen" vibe.
Its not like you can rush them THAT early, you need a Major rank soldier to unlock the final infiltration and any reasonable person will send their best soldiers to the fortress, so most people will wait to get more majors.
solution, Go on 'raid the advent facility' or 'raid the advent train' guerrilla ops to get turret wrecks
Issue 2. Are turrets worth it in WotC.
Answer, turrets in WotC are upgraded to have squad sight, also you can defend against the chosen so you get more use out of them then the one time per campaign.
Its matter of preference really, what you do first, but in general Chosen should be killed ASAP before objectives, Blacksite wont recieve + 8 HP and +1 armour + 1 random strenght (like immunity to melee, ignorance of overwatch) every few months, nor it will port it to already hard battles, killing or kidnapping your soldiers.
In short, objectives do not attack the XCOM nor they make the game harder the longer it goes on, so it is reasonable thing to kill them early before they become too powerful.
But "powerful" cant be applied to all Chosen though, some chosen are way more dangerous than others.
For me, Assasin is the first to go, then Warlock, then Hunter, descending from how dangerous they are.
Assasin is actively attacking and doing damage to XCOM soldiers, with her hit and run tactics she can be a real nuisance in maps like sewers where there are walls and hard cover everywhere.
Warlock does nothing for the most of the game, he spawns zombies and until you find him directly with your soldiers then he whips out his psionic skills. They can wreak some havoc but Warlock can be hard countered so hard its comedy gold. Because he is a psionic, Sparks and soldiers with psi shield are immune to 90% of his abilities. He has to use his assault rifle which cannot compete with machineguns and rifles of XCOM, he pretty much has a firepower of single XCOM operative, just with ton of HP.
Hunter has a tendency to die if he gets in sight of XCOM units, he tries to snipe your units but he needs to set up his shot, game nicely shows you where you need to move the targetted unit so you just move your soldier and you waste his turn. His pistol does what... 4-6 damage ? He was, most probably also on top of a roof top, so a grenade at his face and he is hitting the pavement down bellow, now exposed to crits and he will most likely die in few hits.
He can fire his sniper rifle too without the need for setting up the shot, but so far, in my 262 hours of XCOM 2 played, i saw that only once... in other cases he tries to fire his pistol or attempts to stun or blind XCOM soldiers.
Then I have a bugged game, since I raided two facilities and don't have a turret wreck to research. Or must some other research done before this can happen?
Never had a choosen attack the avenger, not even in highest difficulty. Did I miss much? xD
