i have verified the game 2 times and reinstalled all the prereqs for the game..
still crash...
anyone have an idea.
(really strange.. played all the new DLC misions without a single crash..but now "last mission" crashing all the time)
My antivirus updated recently, and it's ransonware detection saw the files the game was making/encrypting as suspicious behavior, so it took the files for scanning, which kept crashing the game. Every single time.
So, now I make all versions of the first and second games exceptions.
So I've heard that there still might be that corrupted save bug around, and it sounds like it might have affected your DLC Ironman save.
Try this: go to your WOTC save location, copy the whole folder elsewhere, then lose all your progress in the final mission set and start over there. If your crashing still happens, then you can put the copied original with the final mission progress back and try troubleshooting some more.
I have/had the same issues, another game crashed just the second I hit save, so I lost three hours of progress. Annoyed, I fired up WOTC which was always stable. But I am having frequent crashes, the last wiped one killed the save file with it.
I am so happy you posted here, I had never looked into the settings of my antivirus. You are spot-on, after disabling the ransomware detection, everything is back to normal.
Is it Bitdefender you are using (as well)?

was my solution as well.. never would have thought of that.. THANKS MATE :)
Glad to hear.
And yeah, I also have Bitdefender. It can be a huge pain, but I'm at least kinda glad that it's actually doing what it's supposed to do.
After fixing the Bitdefender issue, I thought I was good. But now for the last three days, the game has been crashing constantly, and I have no clue what it is now..
I have verified/reinstalled/etc everything that I can look up, and now I can't play 10 minutes without the game freaking out, freezing and most times making a crash report.
This is my latest, can someone please help my computer ignorant butt make sense of this stuff?
This pastebin is my latest report. [pastebin.com]
It has a habit of doing it on saves too, like autosaves in ironman, corrupting the save file.
It happens on missions, on the Avenger doing mundane tasks, whatever.
If there is a memory leak, any tips to help?
Ah well that sounds different. Looking at your bin, I don't think it's your memory, lol. Your log is showing alot of missing objects/components/textures that the game is failing to load. Looks like it ends when your GPU gives up. Are you running any mods?
Yes, but I don't think it's them. I went back to an earlier save when I only had 2 (Alien Rules Revised and Infinite TLP Weapons), and the crashes still happened. I've also went most of the month with those mods in with no issues either.
Downloaded the latest Nvidia Driver when it came out on the 11th. I even reinstalled the driver from the site, to no dice.
Don't actually use it (I just hook my speakers up to my monitor and get the sound from the GPU there), but tried.
Another crash. Here's the latest crash report: https://pastebin.com/EVSk5kZa
Edit: I also keep noticing that after each crash, there's always something missing when I re-verify my game cache. It doesn't seem like anything big, but it keeps bugging me that it's happening.
There is a post by another user who had a similar problem with the same card. They tried disabling subsurface scattering, AA, and underclocking their GPU, which resolved the issue for them.
You also seem to have the Microsoft basic render that comes with PCs that have no graphics cards installed alongside you're Nvidia drivers. They are each using 16gb of your system memory. You might want to uninstall Microsofts default render adapters.
I did disable subsurface and the in-game AA (I did use the Nvida Control Panel to use FXAA, in exchange tho), but that also lead to a crash, so I don't think that would work. All it did was give me a bit more FPS, but when my game works, I usually get good framerates anyways.
It's also frustrating to have to underclock to get a stable game. You'd think that after a year and a half, Firaxis would focus more on stability patches than making DLC for a DLC, even if it was entertaining...
Oh? Didn't realize that was there. How do I uninstall them? In my Device Manager, under Display adapters, all I see is my "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti" listed, but nothing else in that category.
