Any way to guess how many groups of enemies in a level?
Just wondering, so i can manage my grenades and other limited abilities.

Any way to guess the number of groups depending on the difficulty level or something?

On commander it's 3 on hard and 4 on very hard mission. On legendary it's 4 on hard and 5 on very hard mission.
Also, on legendary it sometimes can be 6-7 small pods(two aliens per pod).

What is hard and very hard?

I only see difficult missions, or sometimes moderate. I haven't seen easy since the very start of the game, currently I mostly see difficult missions. I guess hard = difficult?

Yeah, that. Hard = difficult.
Number of enemies corresponds to the difficulty listed.

Legendary: Easy = 8 enemies, Moderate = 9, Difficult = 11, Very Difficult = 13
Commander/Veteran: Easy = 6 enemies, Moderate = 8, Difficult = 9, Very Difficult = 11

you could play on easy, but with beta stike ticked in the mod options, this would give you few enimies, but more health - for you and advent.

Why?

I like the difficulty, wasn't complaining about that. Just wanted to know how many enemies to expect so i can plan my limited ressources like grenades.

But now after following the story it seems at the start of the mission they give you exactly how many enemies there are and the types even. I believe it is intel provided by the shadow chamber.

Correct. The Shadow Chamber tells you that information.
Do note that it doesn't tell you if the Chosen or alien rulers are going to show up though (if you aren't playing WotC you can take a good guess that the viper king or berserker queen will show up, because they come with vipers and mutons respectively, which stop showing up normally after a while, and archon king will come with archons so you can at least sometimes tell it isn't in the mission)

I already beat the viper king, down to last bar of the berserker, and about half way through the archon king.

Yes I guessed as much about the vipers and the mutons since they are always hanging out with one of theirs... but didn't know about archons because when i met their king he was alone, so i guessed but wasn't sure. I only met him once so far.

I play the base game with all DLCs, with the exception of the biggest one, war of the chosen i think. I'll buy that once i have beaten the game on legendary, unless you advise me otherwise?

I think doing base game on legendary, then going WotC is a good idea. WotC changes up the whole game enough to give it some more life, so if you are after maximum fun for the dollar, get the fun from the base game, then extend the fun once your base game is 'done'
