XCOM 2

Why they always die and never unconscious or bleeding?
I started playing this game a few days ago, first run, surprised by many situations / new enemies / etc, stuff that are hard to plan ahead for if you don't know it's coming.

One thing i noticed is that my soliders always directly die, as in lay in a pool of blood unmoving and impossible to stabilize them or anything else if i send someone near them.

I even carried the corpse of someone to the end, yet he was still dead at mission finish.

Issue is, i see in descriptions of skills status like unconscious or bleeding, yet this never happens to me. Why?

It's only a chance of surviving. In vanilla the chance is equal to (Will - 50)%, or (2 * (Will - 50))% if you have Stay With Me. I don't know the calculation for WotC.

I am playing vanilla, so i guess my will is too low, and i guess ill get more if i level up. Since my highest guy right now is sergeant, i guess that's my issue right now. Ty!

Even by raising Will the best you can get is 50%. Getting Stay With Me is much more important.
Also, note that since it's based on Will, a character that is Shaken will always die since they have 0 Will.

carried out bleeding soldiers will be fine, dead is dead

unconscious is not related to shooting, just certain melee attacks have the ability to knock you out
also bleeding out soldiers that are stabilized become unconscious

To explain: a soldier who loses all health but survives is bleeding out. Stabilizing them with a medkit or medical protocol will cause them to instead become unconscious, which won't cause them to die after a duration (if you finish the mission or evac them before the bleedout timer ends they'll still be alive after the mission regardless of how long it takes afterwards). Stun lancers, mutons, and the berserker queen and archon king (alien hunters dlc) can also instantly knock a soldier unconscious. Unconscious (whether caused by stabilizing a bleeding out soldier or getting knocked out by an enemy) can be cured with Revival Protocol or Restoration, and enemy-caused unconscious is a mental effect that is blocked by mind shields or psiop's Solace ability (but Solace will not cure unconscious. I think.)

Try the BleedOutMod on for size. it's WotC compatable.

the problem is that the vanilla game gives Rookies and one or two levels higher ZERO chance to bleed out, wich just seems unfair.

this mod gives them a low chance to bleed out instead, making survival at least feasible.

Ironically, the original developer idea was that you would loose soldiers. It is one of the ways to create story telling, and to generate tension and consequence - a real feeling of harsh danger. Death is a thing ion XCOM. Consider that as you make your decisions about if you are going to remove some of that effect from your game, but ultimately, do what you need to maximize your enjoyment.

For me, that means adding in different hair styles and hats.

soldiers still die, and it's still possible for them to be kiled outright.

it just doesn't seem fair that there is a zero-percent-chance of survival unless you're already above some aurbatrary mark.

Well, here I get to be smug, and say that my soldiers always have a solid chance for survival, because I am like, totally awesome as a commander.
