yeah big picture is not for me sadly not with 360 or xbox one controllor mabey with steam controllor it would work and feel smooth but sadly I look like am stuck with mouse and keyboard for the mean time It was so I could just connect from my pc to my tv and have a smooth experiance like on the xbox ( try out steam link both on the phone and with the steam link box it self ) or just genaly throught the pc with big picture custom controlls

that what i'm referring to when I do that It just stays there saying to connect controllor even thought it is plugged in it lets you press serting buttons on the controllor but it still just sits there and dosen't matter how long you leve it it still sticks at connecting

I have the same exact problem. I have seen this same problem appear in many different threads here in the Steamcommunity XCOM2 forum. I have discovered that 2K has recognized this problem in their most recent ( dated July 13m 2018 ) list of known defects. See this web page here :

https://support.2k.com/hc/en-us/articles/216271958-XCOM-2-Known-Issues

I would also like to add that I only have this problem with the original XCOM 2 game ( the "vanilla" version ) and not the War Of The Chosen expansion pack. If you have WOTC installed, when you launch the game you will have to select either XCOM 2 original or XOM 2 with WOTC. When I select WOTC there is no problem using a wired XBox One controller or a Steam Controller with a gamepad configuration. But when I select the XCOM 2 base game from the launch menu, then the gamepad controller is not recognized after changing from Mouse input to Controller input in the options menu exactly as the OP mentioned above.

This makes no sense at all. What a mess. This game has a lot of small bugs, but this a pretty large one.
