XCOM 2
The Chosen have killed XCOM's immersion.
I pray that whatever Firaxis do next with the franchise, they get rid of the endlessly yammering aliens.

Enemy Unknown OOZED atmosphere starting with its name: we don't know who they are, why they're here and how they work.
Enemy Within managed to introduce an enemy human faction without ruining the immersion and leaving the mysticism intact with the radio chatter.
In base X2 we have Advent talking some form of language that we cannot understand. All good here.

My first cringe came when the elders started communicating with me. I was OK with it lore-wise, they're mind readers after all, but the things they were saying felt cliche.
Little did I know of the Chosen back then.

DEAR LAWD, if they wanted to give the game more character and to create authentic villains, did they have to make it THIS cliche???
And they WON'T SHUT UP!!! I'm probably the only person in the whole world who doesn't mind Bradford and co talking to me from time to time, at least their dialogue serves either world building or makes sense within the context of events.

These three just trash talk the banalest threats you'll find. This is kindergarten level fantasy villain talk. If that's what they went for - they achieved it. At the cost of everything feeling like a joke.

Every time a start a WoTC campaign I get triggered over this.

Even I found myself a bit perturbed by the Chosen being able to contact me so often and so freely. It felt odd, especially when were all trying to hunt each other down...

Fortunately, an obvious solution presented itself: Murder them.

Anything with aliens is ridiculous.

20 guys launching a guerilla warfare campaign against alien occupied Earth is ridiculous.

This is true. Haha

Yeah they act like 15 year old edgelords, its a shame we need to endure it to get to the gameplay.

That maybe all true but they're still my biggest punch in the air when I finally take one down.

And then I miss them...
I dunno if it's just me but I kinda see the Chosen DLC as being like a saturday morning cartoon version of XCOM - like a non-canon reimagining where it's all smack-talking aliens and a more gung-ho attitude rather than a scathing fight for survival. I mean between the goofy posters, the whole buddy system thing, and the smack-talking cartoon villains I'm having a ball! It's like the XCOM version of that lazerbeam dinosaur DLC for Far Cry.

I find it funny same with the talk about advent Burgers or that Bradford not flying the avenger very good.

Chosen trash talk is one of the best features in game. At least something else from NPCs than praise targeted to narcissists.

It is still trash talk because I don't really think firaxis will keep up with what the chosen are speaking about. That this is just one of many dimensions and we don't really accomplish anything because there's another dimension and another who been conquered. In the end it means each xcom could been as well its own game without any lore from the previous game. What I recall Bradford died when defending the base from the alien invasion which prove the chatter we hear from the warlock god-complex guy. So I don't really see how each peices work together here, xcom2 doesn't prove xcom: eu happened while it doesn't try to convince it didn't when we are playing the dlc shens last gift. That's what we end up having, a lore where everyone in the game tries to tell us what the plot is about but no one have a clue what the big threat is about.

That's some Commander magic, because with the Commander in a year they do more than they did without the Commander for the past 20 years.

And yeah, the aliens are hilariously incompetent since they can't seem to catch like 50 people aboard a giant flying ship of their own making. Not to mention that tier 3 XCOM tech is more advanced than anything the aliens have. Well, except for the weapons of the Chosen, which are more advanced than tier 3 XCOM tech. The catch is, though, that the weapons of the Chosen are unique while tier 3 XCOM tech is mass produced. Sort of.

Why would it be surprising that they act this way? They clearly believe themselves to be superior. After all, I imagine that most people wouldn't put up a fuss when they come calling.

what does realism have to do with anything here? might as well state XCOM is unrealistic because everyone waits everyone else's turn.

I'm saying it's so ridiculous it ruins the setting for me.

that's a good way to look at it, guess I'll have to accept that outlook

XCOM had immersion? Honestly, I haven't saved up for WotC, but from what I've seen, it makes XCOM 2 turn into a fun, slightly flashy, sci-fi mess, much better compared to the drab, edgy feel that the vanilla has.

Of course, it would be amazing to have a serious game, with sparks of humor, but Firaxis is only one company, and the Workshop is still full of wonders.
