Easiest difficulty for Ironman?
I am using a few mods like a better advent/better campaign... I've been playing on Veteran and even that's proving to be challenging with reloads and mission restarts on occasion.

I just feel the RNG component in this game is too much of a pain in the♥♥♥♥♥to attempt Ironman on a harder difficulty... Is the lowest difficulty really that easy or will it be suitable with Ironman + Better Advent/Campaign

I just don't see how Ironman is even compatible with the game as whole given the amount of luck and randomness when it comes to hitting your target or your opponent missing + critical hits.

You might as well do it on Commander to get the "Valhalla" achievement

Honestly the game becomes a joke for the most part once you get magnetic weapons and or the first armor buff. Also, if you add new classes from mods that can lessen the burden as well.

i highly recommend for you to play the game multiple times so you learn everything and get better. i did like 5,6 full playthroughs on Non-Ironman, then the first ironman i tried on Commander, was pretty much a success with 5 deaths.

It's your mods causing the issues for you because as others have said iron man doesn't change much.

But to answer your question easy is the easiest difficulty for iron man.

i have only done one iron man on both this and the first xcom remake. iron man does make you play differently as you cannot play slop! iron man is a good teacher if you want to improve your game just watch several you tubers on xcom of either and usually you will hear them mention their game improves with iron man on vs off. also iron man adds a touch of realism since if you die in real life thats kind of it so especially with the fact soldiers level up and gain perks losing valuable resources like maxed psychic soldiers on iron man can set back a game a few xcom months and thats the point of iron man to add that element of risk to your game that you may actually fail just because of one lousy bad call that may have not even been understood considering aliens can just even pop up because of burrowing as an example or yes the RNG where you look through your sights and see a 20% chance to hit an alien and so you like hunker down and some reason though the same alien you just had terrible odds blasts your character in the face to wipe them it can be frustrating as its like what odds did they have as in your mind they should have had similar odds against you so why were they shooting!?!?! we often forget that they are leveling up as well and they are going to have likely different odds with their guns used against us as well as their angle may actually have been better against us as your chances are NOT their chances.

What's the best way to level up a soldier if you happen to lose one of your best soldiers mid-late game?

You shouldn't lose any soldiers mid-late game unless you're super behind in weapon and armor tiers honestly.
If one of them die regardless, replace him and try to finish off enemies with him. Other than that, there's not a whole lot you can do for them to catch up.

Yes but RNG is a factor on Ironman when it comes to losing a soldier due to a critical, a missed shot or encountering a ruler without warning. Or things like a lost swarm appears out of thin air adjacent to you... and then immediately gets to take their turn. Then there are timed missions which force you to move long distances and play aggressively

I hate to be that guy, but you need to get good. Complaining and blaming rng will not help you beating ironman. I mean, even L/I is completely possible and there are very few instances where rng can be really considered unfair. It works both ways, the aliens too have to deal with sometimes bullsh.it rng.

I also dislike how tight some timers are, fair enough. With wotc you have a second wave option to double them.

Have to agree the game doesn't work well with ironman. Not because of the mode itself, because when a bug happen in ironman it's a permanent part of the game.

Play honestman at every difficulty you want.

Only reload an old save if a bug or glitch broke your game.

And to mention the RNG, it is fair (but cheating if you play under ledenary in favor of you). And you have to overcome the RNG, which is a goal in this game.

Never get why people cheat, if its too hard, then go to the correct difficulty until you learn and get better. Its a real sign of character. Aside from that, iron man just takes practice. It took me 3 attempts to complete in the highest difficulties when I first started playing the new expo. Rng can still screw you and get some good soldi's killed but I learned you should always level up others early as backup and its true from peoples postings, once you get your first weapon tech it gets a lot more easy and in mid+ its hard to lose anyone unless you simply stop trying. Its just the first few missions that is critical.
Halfinger Mar 12, 2018 @ 4:15pm
With ironman you plan for losses which is not that hard. You just have to rethink how you play. Also luck has nothing to do with the game over a full run, it is about risk management. That is what loses games, not bad luck. If the loss of a few soldiers in a mission loses you the game you made a mistake long before that mission started.

I'm not saying the game is easy but for me the fun is in the management part as much as the tactical. You have to get both right. I often lose badly but that is my fault, never is it the fault of 'bad luck'.

Okay, well what is your question exactly? You know which setting is the easiest. If you don't want to play ironman then don't, but if you're prone to reloads then you probably should play with ironman on because you're ruining the experience for yourself.
Soulmancer Mar 12, 2018 @ 6:24pm
I meant should I play on the easiest difficulty setting... and I guess I kind of figured that out with everyone chipping in and the fact I play with a better advent + better campaign... I am getting steamrolled on veteran.

I was debating starting over on rookie with the mods and ironman or continuing but limiting myself to only saving and reloading from the beginng of the mission as opposed to re-loading the turn prior.

I like having an A-team but it's so easy die
