XCOM 2
Avenger Defense Mission Broken, Can't Progress Game in WOTC.
So I recently decided to start a new game in WOTC, and have been playing it constantly, with nearly 85 hours into this particular save. Today I recently was intercepted by a UFO, and began the Avenger Defense mission, which is all well and good, I've done them many times in the Vanilla game, except now it's completely broken. Whenever the mission starts, I'm stuck stareing into the void, as well as the feet of a Lost Civilian. Here's a screenshot to show what I'm talking about.

I have no idea how to fix this. I've reloaded to past saves, and no matter what I do, or where I go, the UFO always takes me down over Western Europe, and I always get stuck on the same exact screen. I have no idea what's causing this, and no idea as to how to fix it.

You may have a software problem. Do a "Verify Integrity of Game Files". You find it under the View menu; select Game Details; The first column has a list of your games; Right click on XCom2; Select Properties; Select Local Files; Select Verify. The verification will take a long time so relax. It will identify any software issues and fix them. At least it has done so for me.

This happens to me too. Unfortunately, I haven't found a real fix. The best you can do is remove a member from your squad, go to the soldier select screen and click the globe to take you back to the map. The UFO will still follow you but you can continue playing as normal. If you try to select the mission later, it will not work.

Nope, I've done it twice now, and yet the game still breaks for me. I have no idea what's causing it either.

i highly recommend this

1) stay at the reaper base or..........until the ufo go shoot you down

i have encounter this before and after i load a previous save, i went to camp at reaper base and the ufo comes and shoot my avenger down.

the avenger defense mission then starts and loads without hanging at all.

I've also tried this, and I've tried it with every base, and the game still breaks every time.

I tried that as well, and yet I still get intercepted, and the mission still breaks.
So at this point, I've done literally everything that I know. No matter what I do, or where I go, that UFO brings me down, and I get caught in a visual hang. One thing I did notice was that when I reload to an old save while in the hang, I get a brief glimpse of the map and the soldiers on it, but that's the most progress I've gotten with it. I'm currently at a loss, and it really sucks, because I've got nearly 100 hours into this save, without losing a single soldier.

I had problems like that too on multiple occasions and I think it's the game running out of ram. Still haven't found a permanent solution, but what usually helps is to save reight before ending the mission and if it happens restart the game. That way I had to restart every 8-15 missions, but I can live with that. Hope it helps at least to some degree

Yeah, I tried that, but it still doesn't seem to help. I think because the UFO is part of the Chosen's Hunt for me that it's mandatory that I get taken down. Now matter what I do, I get shot down on August 23 at 3:00 AM. I've tried turning off all of my mods, lowering my graphics from Maximum to Minimum, loading back previous saves, and so-on. Honestly at this point, I've all but given up. From all the research I've done, it seems like this is VERY common in Vanila, WOTC, LW2, and Modded, yet the devs have yet to release a fix for it, and no one has been able to find a defenitive one. My very last option is going back about a real days worth of progress, and seeing if I can take the Chosen down before being hunted. However, that's not a permanent solutions, as Dark Event UFOs, and other Chosen may still have the same effect.

Are you using any Mods in WOTC?
They are aware of the issue
https://support.2k.com/hc/en-us/articles/216271958-XCOM-2-Known-Issues

I am sure its not the only issue they are having. I would assume they worked on a newer version of the RE (RE 4 plus whatever now with RE 5 coming) using the original source code and they may be having an issue.

I would go directly to the source. Contact Firaxis directly and their support team. See what they say.

kindly take note that there are mods that conflicts with each other.

mod X overwrites this xcom 2 file. mod Y overwrites the same xcom 2 file that mod X did.

that is called mods conflicting with each other.

in other words, an unending loop where there is no "end" in sight.

p.s i know the basics of coding and the computer programming process.

We’re all well aware of this, and I can assure you, I know far more than just the basics of programming and coding. However, this is happening in Vanilla games too, without mods, as stated in the previous comments. It’s an issue with Unreal Engine and the devs, not mods.

i don't have mods in my xcom 2 and yet i got pass the problem you having by following what i suggest which i wrote in my first post of this thread.

unless you can provide concrete evidence that it is cause by the game engine and the developers.

then blaming them for the bug/glitch when you refuses to listen to "kingts" post and what i say in my previous post clearly says a lot.

majority of the problems that occurs in the game is due to people go and heavily mod the game.

i have met people like you before in other steam game forums where they go blame the game and the developers when in actual fact, it is another way of finding an EXCUSE.

I'm blaming them for ♥♥♥♥. Not only have I done my research, and quite a bit of it, I've played the game with 0 mods, and it has still happened, and there are many documented cases of it. Most have mods, yes, but there are still numerous accounts on Reddit, and XCOM Forums, and the Steam forums of it happening in Vanilla, something I have experinced first-hand. So instead of accusing people of creating excuses, actually spend a few hours doing some thorough research.

I'm having the same problem, though i'm using mods.
