Also, for a challenge late-game, try playing with Grim Horizon. By the end of the game you will have a long list of active Dark Events which will make things interesting.
I never use the sword though...I always go for serial and high crit and a good chance for another move. The swords are very handy though in case a melee enemy gets close...with the bladestorm ability.
the Chosen Katana example is 100% chance to hit bypassing armor. if you are on commander or below you can use 2 bondsmate actions + inspire to give him additional swings of the thing and he can just go ham.
Failed to kill, with serial/Reaper? thats OK, just use a bondsmate charge and keep going.
on a sniper kind of requires more than just the sword and reaper. like you need to stack aim.
a sniper with a hunter rifle and death from above is a no cooldown serial. if it has run and gun it can reload after it runs out of free reloads by using a run and gun charge.
For example.
Managed a guerrilla op in apparently 2 turns with a late game team, just chosen weapons. I don't have alien hunters DLC. Its flawless because turn 1 was setup turn 2 was execute.
a Ranger with death from above with that armor maybe Reaper would also be stupidly powerful.
Also, you need high aim to reliably use killzone because of overwatch penalties.
ever.
death from above with hunter rifle is every turn serial. if you have a companion you can pass companion actions to the sniper to continue the death from above spree. so they can fail to kill with 2 death from above shots
only time kill zone would be useful is for camping a drop in zone. and I'd rather use bladestorm or guardian for that.
For instance on the final mission, my sniper overwatched an avatar from across the map as it left its portal getting hit by the stock. the avatar teleported 3 times and getting pegged by my specialist 3 times with the chosen rifle which auto crits psionics. when I finally got a turn the avatar had 3 health left due to being shot up by guardian. kill zone wouldn't have worked.
and hunter rifle only has 3 ammo in the chamber anyways
I typically use my cores for other things in the meantime, Ammo, grenades and armor.
I like Plated armor on my psionics, templars get hazmat unless they got fortress.
I only have hellweave, spider and exo i must still have new aliens to encounter other than andromeda and chrysalid
