XCOM 2

Stuttering? Anyone?
I just bought and installed the WotC "expansion" and I find that at the start of and the end of each mission, the screen is black while the mission narrative goes on. Somewhere in the middle of the starting and closing narrative, I'll start to see activity but it stutters a lot as though my hardware can't keep up. Now and then, I'll notice the stutter through out the game, even when I'm just getting in to the team selection screen before a mission.

This only exists in WotC. The regular XCom 2 doesn't do this.

I have well above the recommended settings. I have verified integrity on the game. I've dropped the settings to low across the board and I don't have any mods installed or subscribed. I'm playing the game as it came installed. I have finally uninstalled then reinstalled the whole game, eliminating all of my saves and still the issue persists.

Anyone else getting this lag? Is this a known issue?

I play more hardware demanding games without issue. This seems to be the only one I'm having this stuttering problem with.

Not all settings are for your computer alone but many settings inside the engine maybe able to increase the general improvement as stuttering often occurs when the program is underperforming and not because it is demanding, it rather the opposite the game is less demanding than other games and that causes stuttering.

Hmmm I'll take a look. Thanks!

Hey, thanks again. When I get home, I'll implement a few of these and see if it works. The info looks very promising!

I have the black screen after a mission, where you can hear the narrative but see nothing. I just assumed this was down to settings/pc specs. It has to load that content in at some point.

Although you play alot more demanding games (i do too). 99.9% of them dont have the mod support that xcom 2 does. The "stuttering" generaly only occurs for me the first time the game loads in mod assets. With most customization mods, these are not quite as optimized or streamlined as the official content so they take a bit of loading.

Unfortunately there is another big issue. Somewhere in the mission, it breaks my display driver for a second, long enough to crash the game. Currently I'm reverting to an old driver to see if that makes any difference. I know it's not my card because this is the only game it's happening in.

We shall see

So I believe I found where the last problem is that was causing some of my problems. Hopefully the MODs will see this...

Apparently WoTC is hogging up system memory. The game starts somewhere above 2 gigs of memory then after time it starts hogging up more and more. Just before my game crashed this last time around, the game was showing that it was using around 12 gigs of ram.

This is no bueno.

Even reverting drivers, the video driver is still crashing as well. Though, no where near as quick as it was before. I think the memory issue for the game is related.

Once more:
- System is beyond recommended stats
- Verified files - then Reinstalled the game
- Rolled drivers back 5 and 3 patches back.
- Memory is good
- Video Card is good
- Video card is set optimal (even as some posts suggested but didn't make any different)

I've also noticed wotc needs a large swap file. Looking in the log, crashes mentioned running out of virtual memory, even with 16gb RAM, it wants to swap to disk, so I increased the page file size to 16GB in Windows 10 and will see if that helps.

Let me know what you find. I tried setting it to what shows as the max (1024) but I'll see if I can pump it up more.

Thanks for the input!

Check the guide link in my review of the game (you need to do the steps for WOTC it has a separate ini file)
Also I heard that Xbox controllers cause this, so if you use it, you have to unplug

ini file will likely be in this folder:
C:\Users\<Your Name>\Documents\My Games\XCOM2 War of the Chosen\XComGame\Config\XComEngine.ini

50% - No offence but I don't think turning down the quality of the game is going to fix my problem. It appears there is more than just stuttering going on here.

Sliv,

I turned my pagefile up to 64gigs and so far, the blue screen hasn't happened but I think it's still too early to tell.

I'm still getting the driver error where it's telling me that the driver shut down prematurely. This go round, it's happened twice in one mission.

I rolled back drivers a good ways back but no luck. Same issue. I'm bringing my drivers back up to date.

I did a series of stress tests overnight on my video card, memory and cpu and everything came back normal.

I checked the temps before, durring and after and everything looks normal there as well.

I even took apart the DMP file for the previous bluescreen and it's giving me a processor error so it's definitely doing something to my system. However, this is the ONLY game any of this is happening to.

To be honest, I am at my wits end trying to figure out what's happening here. I'm about ready to give it up. It's so frustrating. The enjoyability factor is fading fast with every mission. I just can't understand why this game and no other.
