XCom 2 suddenly freezing temporarily when alt-tabbing or clicking in/out of window

I'm pretty much always multitasking and XCom 2 has never had this problem before. I've been playing every day and suddenly yesterday when the game window is focused or unfocused, (either clicking in/out of window or alt-tab) everything freezes for about 10 seconds on my computer. The sound is still playing and it comes back fine after that freeze.

I haven't made any new changes. It literally just started happening one evening once I was starting the final few missions and now its consistent. I did a full re-install of XCom 2 and its still doing it.

Any insight to what might be causing this?

Update: if anyone else runs into this problem, I've managed to determine its specific to running youtube on chrome and XCom 2 at the same time for me. If I don't have youtube running in chrome I can alt-tab with no freezes and even if I run it in mozilla its fine. Still very odd considering all last week was running videos while playing with no issues.
