Chosen dead. Any point in the Defense Matrix?
If all of the chosen are dead, is there any use for the defense matrix?

There is still the standard Avenger Defense mission from the UFO that chases you, but there's usually only 1 of those per campaign (the dark event seems to be extremely rare, and in over 600 hrs I've never gotten one). Plus by that time you'd be really overpowered for it anyway.

So no, not really.

Being that I've killed the three chosen my like 20 max rank guys would likely make short work of an attack you are right. Legendary difficulty was BRUTAL for awhile but now it's hit the realm of easy unless i really screw up. I should be able to finish the last few missions soon after i can increase my contacts to get to the missions.

I think they removed the UFO defense in WotC, in vanilla i got it from time to time but i never get it in WotC (except for the story mission UFO attack)

No the regular one is still in WotC, with the same rules it has in vanilla.
There are various mods that gives new/updated uses for the Defense Matrix, maybe look into those if you wanna get more out of it.

I think you already get a pretty epic deal for what you pay. How much is the upgraded matrix....150 - 200 supply, 2 - 3 power and 1 engineer for 8 shots/turn with the turrets which have okay aim (good aim on holotargeted units) and a solid chance to spoil chosen avenger sabotage and thus less stolen gear and less injured staff.

For that investment thats a very good deal.

I was under the impression the chance for chosen sabotage to fail was not actually implemented. like it doesn't work. never ran the numbers myself, but other people did. sabotage fails 50% of the time without the matrix and 50% of the time with the matrix.

regardless the chosen are dead so no more sabotage.

the turrets are worth a few kills on chosen defense missions. if you bring a templar with exchange, and psionic ally? or whatever the colonel rank ability that spawns a clone, the clone can be made, run forward, and exchange with a turret on its final turn of life, moving the turret far forward, the temapr can also do this himself.

making the turrets far more useful since they won't be heavily out ranged by the length of the field. 2 templars with exchange can move all 4 turrets forward with this pattern.
You can still be intercepted by a UFO, but that usually only happens about once per campaign and the Matrix isn't that great anyway. Build it only if there's nothing better to put there.

If the Avenger gets shot down it still triggers the defense mission

Wait there's another base defense mission besides the story mission? So if I have finished the tracking UFO base defense mission I should still build the defense matrix?

in war of the chosen when your chosen Meter fills up they launch an assault on the avenger, you get to deploy 10 units + 4 turrets and they deploy 30 some odd units + a chosen. its not that difficult. cuz you got those 14 firing units.

except if lost world is active because all those exploding turrets and sectopods/gatekeepers tend to cause many lost swarms to occur.

I see, so if you have finished the story UFO attack, and killed all the chosen then the DF matrix is useless?
red255 Nov 23, 2019 @ 10:49am
probably but at that point the game is over and many things are useless what are you replacing it with?

Aliens can still attack your base like before wotc afaik. I am not 100% sure I remember right, but that's what I assume will happen since chosen assaults kind of replace normal base fights that were there before expansion.

I'm just wondering, since I have finished the UFO defense story mission and only have the Chosen left to hunt. If I can hunt them all then I guess I don't need to even build the DF matrix.
