PS4 controller not working with WOTC
Hi, I've looked everywhere and i havent found a solution to this.

When i play vanilla XCOM2 my ps4 controller works without any issues. When i go to launch WOTC however, the game doesn't let me switch the controls from mouse to gamepad, as that option is greyed out.

I suppose this means WOTC doesn't recognise my controller? I've tried using the steam ds4 support, inputmapper and DS4Windows, and none of them get my game to recognise the controller.

does anybody know of a fix to my issue? ive spent about 3 hours now looking everywhere for fixes but nothing has worked.

I think you are wasting your time looking for a fix.
Controller support was flaky in the base game of xcom2 requiring fiddly work-arounds for allot of people.
The system was altered for WOTC and most threads indicate it got worse rather than better.
Load big picture mode and navigate to controller input for Xcom 2. You want to set the preset configuration to 'gamepad', it's description is something like 'used to play twin stick shooter games'. The game will warn you the game pad isn't configured but load the game up now and try it.

If this works try launching the game next time without big picture mode on and see if the configuration sticks. If not this should at least work in big picture mode

i am having problems with my shield controller, everytime it loads in a mission it just says reconnect controller, and i have to press B, not a big problem but still annoying as hell, this game seems to be made to play with controller as it seems way to clunky without.

This didn't work, sadly. it still straight up doesnt recognise the controller.

Thank you. It works perfectly now.
No need for Big Picture at the time of this post, "controller options" are always present.
Just gotta disable the right-click "forced off" that you'd already put for the regular vanilla XCOM 2, then do the "gamepad" thing and restart. Then (finally) be able to choose "controller" in the game options just so you save it and put "forced off" back on and then everything's fine like in vanilla XCOM 2.

You can also use DS4Windows, free app that makes windows think DS is a xbox360 pad.

The steam handling of PS4 pads seems pretty good now. On Witcher 3 it even changes the light colour to red when enemies are near, just like on PS4.
