I wish someone mod commander's mother in game.
As a side note no it doesnt really impact on the game in any way that Ive seen. Because Ive purposely tanked 3 months in a row and it still didnt end.
As for the spokesman, I may be wrong, but in my experience his comments only take into account avatar pips gained vs avatar pips loss. You could win 8 missions in a month, but if the track gained 4 pips and lost none, he will scold you.
If you are not doing anything about the Avatar Project and letting the progress timer keep ticking up and thus allowing humanity to get that much closer to the alien holocaust for us then I would say that no, you are not doing all that great or performing flawlessly considering the fact that you have done little or not enough to avert our holocaust which is your primary mission throughout the whole game.
It would be like doing lots of pointless side quests and then being confused why Kreia or someone is criticizing you in an RPG.
"you didn't finish or even work on your mission"
"But I saved that cat from the tree and completed lots of pointless fetch quests flawlessly!"
"Yes you did. That's the point. You did all of that while the galaxy is burning."
Well I mean it's maybe not to that degree because at least all of your side projects actually DO have a point and play a role towards the main story But you get the idea. It's unlike in borderline immersion breaking rpg sidequests where you have this super important mission to save the whole world as the Chosen One and yet anybody with any damn sense would be saying "why the hell is the Chosen One utterly ignoring his all important quest to save the multiverse and just running around saving cows and trying to collect 57 gold instead" which I often find ridiculous in games because really, why the ♥♥♥♥ are you as the greatest general alive running around doing such completely pointless things?
So at least yes you are doing flawlessly in fights and covert ops and whatnot but if you aren't torching their facilities and setting back the Avatar progress timer then you're going to get knocked back on his comments. I wondered the same thing before realizing that I hadn't taken down a single alien facility or researched a single shadow project and so I was basically just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around and he (spokesman) knew it and called me out on it.
In my current game, with doubled timers, the 24-pip AVATAR counter filled up in July!!! But I have received mostly good remarks from the guy. I don't know why his rambling gets under my skin but it does.
