Archon King on Advent Blacksite?!
So thought it was a bit harsh that I go to do the standard Advent Blacksite and the Archon King is sat there waiting for me.

Now bear in mind I haven't got psionics or plasma weapons yet so he basically one shots my guys......

Any advice from people who have beat him please? :)

These guys take up or two pods when they spawn. So it is not as if he is an "Extra" pod.
The main thing you want to do is avoid trying to activate another pod when you fight him.

Avoid elevated areas, because his AoE Javelin attack can destroy floors causing you to fall down. Flash bangs and stuats effects dsable abilities.

If you're playing WotC then you should've known better than to go on a blacksite which clearly said that it was guarded by a dangerous alien. In all my WotC playthroughs (including L/I one) I went on advent blacksite because I wanted to, not because I needed to. Resistance order "sabotage" and covert actions are enough to keep avatar clock at bay.

The freeze bomb or anything that can stun is your friend.

Ahh okay, thanks. And yeah the collapsing floor was my downfall last attempt where I put my whole squad there, rookie error that I won't make again!

Not playing WotC, don't have that yet unfortunately, and it didn't mention a dangerous alien much to my annoyance! I may hold off on the blacksite for now then

Psi ops with stasis.

It's the only way to be sure.

The dangerous Aliens are not WotC but the Alien Rulers DLC. If you do not have that DLC you will not get the Rulers (and the 4 new weapons and the 3 new armors which also come with AR)

Sorry, misunderstood.
In Vanilla, there is no warning after you have done the Snakenest. But after that the Rulers may come to every Missiontype, not only Blacksite. If you have loosed them free, then they appear until killed.
And better an Ruler at a Blacksite then in a timed Mission.

If you are asking for advice you probably "savescum". So simply save every single step and avoid him and cheat true that level this way. Avoid his pod and get out of there.

Some levels cannot be beaten any other way. I also had blacksite like this. Not with ruler but with 18 enemys and chosen assassin. I lost two soldiers there with savescuming. It was mission impossible. I got 5 man squad with basic everything and playd on hard. XD

That's true I guess, it could have been a worse mission for it

Archon King BEFORE plasma? Not good. As said above, anything that stuns flashbangs, freeze bombs, ionic weapons on rangers and Skirmishers, then shred armour off, and firing squad treatment. Avoid relying on overwatch shots, I managed to take him down in a single mission but I had full plasma weapons AND chosen weapons on my alpha squad, of which 4 were colonels, sandwiched him between my best ranger who had Assassin's katana and bladestorm, and Mox with his ionic ripjack and retribution skill. I got lucky and exploited every action setting off the bladestorm/retribution combo for massive damage, so don't be shy about using every conceivable advantage. Venom rounds and burning/acid effects can help too. Good luck.

Okay thanks, don't have WotC so can't use a few of those but some good pointers :)

Again, I just want to stress that a single psi op with stasis will disable any ruler for one full turn with no miss chance.
Thus giving you room to heal, clear status effects, regroup, take cover, refresh cooldowns, etc, etc. You can even just evac the hell out of there should the need be.
Make it two psi ops and you can stasis two turns in a row. And stasis itself is on, what, 3 turns CD?
