How do I skip the first mission?
Is there anyway to skip the first mission and go to the Avenger? This way I can see the layout of the Avenger so I know if I need to restart because I don't like the intial layout?

No chance. Tut or not, the first thing you do is a mission.

Or maybe a mod, search the workshop.

But, I think so, save the game at the start, loose the mission as quickly as possilbe and look. If Avenger is good, load save, if not restart.

how could you not like the initial layout? its not like it has random amounts of steam vents.

@red255 mostly I want my "free space" at the top either on the left or right. The way I build my base at start is GTS power relay and lab. The second level i want my workshop inthe middle with resistance comms and resistance ring on either side. On thrid level if I could have my cake and eat it too, i want the exposed power cores on the left and right side for the shadow chamber and psi lab with the proving ground right below the workshop. The final level would be defense matrix, traning centre and infirmary.

Experienced players say that workshops are generally not worth building and I agree with them. In effect it gives you an extra engineer, or two if you upgraded it. However, it costs a fair chunk of change early on, if you want it built quickly you need to front some engineer time, using the room for it means you needed to spend engineer time to clear that room and might have to wait longer to get space for some other room. Worst of all though is that it kind of only gives half as much benefit on average as it at first seems, as you need to supply it with power, and that power could put you over the edge of needing to staff an extra engineer on a power relay. In fact, upgraded it uses exactly as much power as an engineer staffed on a power relay does, so you are only getting 1 extra engineer instead of two. Plus, if you have WotC, there may not be quite enough available rooms for everything you want to build.

generally speaking In Vanilla I build 2 resistance comms, 2 Power relays, 1 psi 1 GTS 1 AWC 1 proving ground 1 shadow with space for 1 workshop 1 lab and one turret, none of which get much use.

IN war of the chosen I build
2 power
1 GTS
1 PG
1 training facility.
1 med bay
1 Resistance ring
1 resistance comm
1 Psi
1 shadow
1 turret
1 lab

The Turret actually getting decent use as it has squadsight now and the chosen attack periodically.

You could shave off the Lab for a workshop but as mentioned you get very little for it.

in vanilla you can buy an engineer for 200 cash or something.

a workshop, upgraded costs 5 power which as mentioned is 1 staffed engineer, and it yields 2 engineer.

it also costs a space on your avenger board, and money. and upkeep.

so as mentioned the money is worth more than one engineer, and the power is worth an engineer, and other reasons its just a bad thing to build.

Just accept the RNG. My most memeorable playthroughs have been the ones where i just take it as it comes. Bless RNGesus.

Well you have valid points. I am also attempting find the best build for all my soilders in wotc. I had a system in the vanilla version. Now I have to rethink a few things.

the only way i can think of to skip gatecrasher is to use the console, namely the endbattle command

I was thinking you just play thru it on EASY, then kick the difficulty up after.
