XCOM 2

Confused!
Till now, I have reversed Advent progress by taking out facilites ( and they always seem to appear in areas I have not made contact!)

Right now, I have an 18 hour window till Game Over ( i guess? havent made it this far yet) yet under Dark Events it reads the next facility wont be built for 5 weeks?

Am I missing something? Is there a way to reverse Advent progress besides taking out facilities?

you can reduce avatar project by doing covert action missions if they are able to be taken

You also lower avatar progress by completing story objectives (unique story missions, and the two times it tells you to use a skulljack on something). The covert action missions the previous player mentioned is only if you have WotC, as is another means of reducing it (a certain resistance order).

I dont have WotC but looks like I will buy it and start over. Such a shame. What a fantastic reboot of UFO Defense!!

The whole Advent countdown thing I wish ( and hope) a modder will fix in future. Its like the game punishes you for winning every fight. How do you " win" then?? ( BTW NB4 " win the battle but lose the war!" =)

Is there a certain building procedure?? Must you research certain things??

How does one " win"??

skull jacking an officer and killing the codex is 1 point reduction,
doing the blacksite is 1 point reduction

Either of those unlock alien encryption which allows you to build the shadow chamber which unlocks

Skull jack a codex for some point reduction... I think 3? depends on what is stored offsite
doing the forge is 2 point reduction?
doing the Codex Coordinates mission is 2 or 3 points reduction.

Regarding Avatar progress.

game starts with dunno 3 pips in the clock least it does in WotC commander diff.
No facilities on the map.

each facility on the map has Stored avatar progress. this progress accrues as time goes on and when dark events put avatar progress on the map. destroying the facilities is going to remove the progress stored there.

there is also progress stored in the facility on the map in the pacific ocean. this progress is only removed thru quest objectives (or doing covert operations in WotC)

each facility makes progress in the offsite facility accrue faster on top of the progress in the facilities.

Facility leads allow you to spend intel to attack facilities in regions you have not yet contacted. which is useful if a particular facility is eating up 4 or more doom. (happens, on commander they start with 2 doom 25% of the time + a dark event adding two more doom and it becomes a priority to take down)

you 'win' by doing the quest objectives listed above then doing the final mission it unlocks with all the shadow chamber research done.

Ok thanks! I perfer to just "play" a game and not resort to having to gather intel ( pun intended) but for this great game I guess its needed =)

I completed PSI chamber etc and am on mission but I have a feeling I will buy WotC and restart; with a game this good I honestly dont mind =). Besides, I have Lemmy..

I find War of the chosen to be a much better XCOM 2 experience.
I preferred Enemy within to XCOM2 vanilla.

They fixed a number of things, not limited to absurd mission loading times, as well as adding more random factors to the random maps so its not just the same two maps over and over.

Learning how to handle the Avatar Timer is essentially the core of the strategic game. Once you can do it, you'll suddenly find the game feels almost too easy towards the end. WotC just makes managing it easier, and further makes the early game 'hard' while the late game 'too easy'.

Managing avatar is fairly straightforward: Make sure you contact as many places as possible and always have a facility ready to attack. Furthermore, never attack the facilities until you are on the last day or so of the countdown. Story missions you can do at your own leisure, keeping in mind that they also reduce pips.

WotC has some built-in mods. Be sure to look over all your options as you start a new game. You can increase the Avatar tracker (reducing stratigic pressure) as well as increase mission timers. The vanilla dlc's can also be modified for in-game interaction, so be careful to make sure you get the game you want to play from the start to avoid another re-start!

If you do purchase WOTC(Which I do strongly suggest), before you start a new campaign, in the options before starting the game it gives you an option to double the Avatar project, so the doom isn't so pending and will allow you to play the game without worrying about it as much. You will stil lneed to keep tabs on it, but with the missions the above posters mentioned and the covert missions, the Avatar project doom counter won't be so distracting.

I think he means there are not mods as such, but when starting a new game it gives you some options to make certain things different.

yep. Thanks wckowalski for clarifying my earlier post.
