Dodge: How does it work?
I am not sure how Dodge works, and I haven't found a good explanation of it on-line. Initially, I thought it increased your Defense, but I guess it does not? How does it work precisely? And is it worth stacking it on your top character(s)?

Dodge reduces damage done to you.

if you have say Blast padding, War suit and plated armor you have 4 armor.

if you take 10 damage it would take 6 damage.

if you had dodge, and rolled dodge, it would I believe cut the damage in half to 5, and then reduce it by 4 to a minimum of 1 damage.

allowing you to laugh off damage until an enemy comes by with shred.

example a sectopod does 10-11 damage no shred. except when it explodes all over you. but if you roll dodge and it doesn't crit, it will only do 1-2 damage thru dodge and armor

as for whether its worth it?

In War of the chosen, you can get up to 10 dodge in as little as 4 days if you have psi operatives with 3 armor and life drain so long as they avoid shred they can manage to survive for extremely long durations of taking damage. 100 dodge in 40 days.

Also works with Rangers. and other guys likely to be shot at.

if you can spare the 40 days to work up a soldier to the 100 dodge he'll be pretty unsquishable with armor.

you could conversely use a wraith suit and a dodge PCS which would provide you with 50 or 60 dodge, making getting 100 dodge less of a chore, but dodge without armor especially the weaker wraith armor means you'll be taking 5 damage from sectopods instead of 1.

better than 10 damage for sure, but much better with the associated armor.

Thanks, so as I understand it:

1. Does halves all in-coming damage, pre-armor calculation?

2. The value of the Dodge is the percentage to halve the in-coming damage? So if you have 100 Dodge, then you are always assured of halving all-incoming damage?

dodge doesn't work if the enemy has 100% or greater chance to hit. Since the enemy doesn't get close range bonuses you'd need an enemy with 80 aim taking a flanking shot from elevation.

or grenades or other attacks with 100% chance to hit

So not ALL incoming damage. just incoming damage that comes from less than 100% shots.

Dodge reduces damage, pre armor calculation. I *think* its half, but I'm not hit enough times with 10 damage shots with 4 armor to determine reliably what the damage reduction is,

Well, a codex has 12 HP, it I hit with with a sniper rifle with bluescreen rounds it generally has 3 HP remaining if it dodges. I.E. 9 damage.

the sniper rifle 8-10 damage+5 bluescreen rounds +2 upgrades. 17/2 = 8.5 rounded up to 9.

So...yeah maybe 50% rounded up on the halves.

But can't you keep increasing your Dodge to the point where the aliens will never have 100 percent? Or do you mean shots that always auto-hits?

Dodge does not increase defense.

Dodge does not reduce chance to hit in any way.

dodge is the chance for you to take half damage from attacks. not the defense.

Oops. Got confused again. Thanks!

Put Simple dodge dont affect if u get hit, but when u get hit u have a chance to dodge out of the way of harm so u only get grazed instead of a full hit, decreasing the dmg by a good amount.
if u want a dodge monster, hunt down the snake king, and maake a armor out of him, pack a ranger in it, give him a dodge PCA and send him on undercover missions where the reward is +dodge.

Again, I'd rather Armor over simply dodge stat.

we have two situations, serpent suit is 40 dodge.

so lets say 60 dodge + 2 armor rage suit vs 100 dodge viper suit

10 damage. 10 times. 100 damage

case viper suit 50 damage

case rage suit apparently Also 50 damage expected. (6 hits at 5-2 damage, 4 hits at 10-2 damage =50)

but with the war suit route you could increase dodge more to reduce expected damage further. and wound time will be less.

Hi, sorry for the very late question but I just got WotC, and would love to know what you mean? How do you ‘farm’ dodge other than sending soldiers on council missions? Cause those I only see things like +3 dodge for a 6 day mission? Or is this what you meant and I only have ♥♥♥♥♥♥ luck with council missions, lol?

Thanks

That's exactly how you get extra dodge on soldiers. Also make sure you're staffing an engineer in the resistance ring for the 33% reduction in mission time.

The highest "dodge" bonus I ever saw from Resistance Ring missions is +10 dodge. Not that common.

And to add onto what gimme said - If you send a bondmate pair on the mission, it will reduce the length by a day.

It has to be a level 2 or 3 bond. Level 1 doesn't get that bonus.
