Is there a solution to the Psi training/covert ops glitch

on 2 different playthroughs I have had a glitch where my PSI operative has gone on a covert op while in training, when returning they do not return to the PSI lab but their name is still in the training box and I am unable to remove it. If you expand the PSI training facility they can train inn the second slot but the original slot is unavailable, so is the skill being trained.

Has anyone experienced this or know a workaround?

perhaps killing the psi operative? or barring that letting him get captured on a council mission?

not sending them out on missions?
