XCOM 2

I give up...
this game is way too hard. What I mean is... hard was too difficult for me, so i changed to normal. then to rookie. And on rookie I am being thrown against 3-4 to 1 ods with sectopods and other high level ♥♥♥♥. Seriously, rookie should be easy. Period. Rookie should be for people that want to have fun. If you are a masochist - you have higher difficulties. I mean I've completed Xcom 1 on hard. But Xcom 2 is way too hard and unforgiving. I give up. Wasted money.

Honestly i have to agree with this.

I found xcom2 during a sale, and got really into it. Played around 600 hours beat commander.

Decided to try out Xcom1 when it was on sale, lost so many soldiers :steamfacepalm:

While I and other people find the game not that hard others do, everyone is different a few people might forget that.

There is a dude on youtube doing an XCOM star wars walkthrough, first time playing and also get's owned. But super cool to watch.

OP just ask for advice or watch a youtube video. Bruteforcing your way through the game when you're already have the mentality of that it's to hard and no fun won't help.

Take a few days off, start again. Your pace, look at some beginner tips because the game isn't the best guide and yea. You will see wonders when you get to know a few things.

Honestly it doesn't matter.

IF xcom2 was your first game = Xcom1 is harder

IF Xcom1 was your first game = xcom2 is harder.

Harder learning curve because you expect both games to be similar and

Xcom1 and xcom2 are not the same game.

Xcom2 = Rookie Island the first month in the game.

In Rookie month you can't lose the game no matter how hard you try the game won't let it happen.

But the main difference is that xcom2 do not tell you that you must priotize blacksites above everything else.

Xcom1 doesn't have this setting because your priority is what country you going to screw.

Exploitation of the game mechanics in xcom2 you learn that you can skip some missions to earn rewards. By not making requests to the resistance them will redraw their support which means you gain back another connection who allow you to reach another blacksite.

Connections works like Satellites in Xcom1, except in Xcom1 you can on lower difficulty obtain a scientific victory and ignore the Satellites entirely.

In xcom2 you can't even research objectives unless you obtained a certain mission who is hard-coded to a specific date in the game.

Research bonuses from labs in xcom2 are entirely useless because you get locked behind a plotbased rail. This rail is also your lifeline as it reduces the avatar project each time one is completed, but you can not choose when to start them until you get them.

In Xcom1 you can have any tech available even if you aren't able to use it.

In xcom2 you can't research a tech if you can't use it.
THAT'S XCOM BAYBEE!

Step 1: Git Gud
Step 2: Ur Gud

the only thing thats really hard is the damned avatar project goes like lightning and is complete before you can even finish clearing out the rooms on your ship this frantic pace and endless events are there to give the illusion of fun and excitement to an otherwise very bad story download avatar begone and enjoy kicking ets butt from here to venus

What I dont understand is....you can save your progress and restart any mission. Or just use a savegame within a mission at an earlier stage and find the perfect postiions and shots and luck too.

Looking at the numbers you face on rookie you can just easily bombard most of the pods or all pods in early missions giving you a significant advantage. You dont even have to preserve your explosives that much. And you get massive aim bonus and a mechanic that helps you if you took a few shots and missed with those shots. And you kill troopers with one shot of most initial weapons. And you can save your progress all the time.

I dont think this post was serious honsetly.

cause, didnt he state that he was facing sectopods and stuff. So, how did you even get to late game if it was so hard and youre rdy go give up? That I dont understand.

How do you create a difficulty which is so easy that somebody new to the game wouldnt even need a single save game on rookie?

Thats impossible. Then you get 2 troopres with one health in each mission. So, you cant loose. You use one frag and they die. Okay you could maybe miss those troopers with all grenades by misclicking maybe. That would be the only challenge. You could mod it maybe so theres no enemies at all so you autowin each mission right away.
I did what Abi-Daizim and I just completed my first run of the game. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Assassin who could ignore reaction fires and a viper who had one my my squad. got so pissed that I left teh game for a day and came back the next day.

and what does Assassin Do? stop in the valley next to an explosive barrel. she was also weak to high ground. XCOM2:WotC is frustating and then a cake walk with some thought. just don;t do the Avatar optopsi before you kill all three of the chosen and get the world under your banner. it makes more themetic sense.

edit: equip your squad with bluescreen rounds. they do normal damage to organics and extra to robotics like Spectres, Codex, and Sectopods. Sectopods are really easy if your Grenadier has shredding attacks and bluescreen rounds.

yeah If Topic Creator can make it to sectopods he's reasonably good enough to beat the game.

the only thing about Sectopods is you have bluescreen rounds and EMP bombs.

I generally hit the Sectopod with a Acid bomb, then Salvo using Rupture on my grenadier, then follow thru with my sniper doing a fan fire or something. Unsure the amount of HP on Rookie here. if I could get away with a simple rifle shot

EMP bombs shut down Robots for 1 turn and deal damage. I don't use them because Bluescreen rounds generally get the job done but if sectopods in particular are your issue the EMP bombs exist. I prefer Acid because it shreds armor and deals damage over time. which kills most things, See a group of ADVENT, dump acid on them, they typical die.

not saying it's not fun, but rookie should be easy and it isn't. As for xcom 2 being easier than xcom 1, I don't see it that way - for me xcom 1 was much more manageable and I wasn't constantly being thrown against impossible odds. Just an example - council mission where I can take only 3 soldiers, I am against sectopod, gatekeeper and multiple other high level aliens and my goal is to kill their officer. And no matter who am I bringing in, 3 people are not enough to complete the mission. There are other examples of course. Am I seeking attention? Hardly, but then again, if you already believe I do, then there is no point in me saying otherwise. All in all, I am unsure if a computer game should frustrate you and that's what xcom 2 does. And I loved original UFO's. This one is just unfair.

Why is it impossible to do that mission with 3 soldiers? By the time you encounter gatekeepers you should have some captains, majors and even colonels. 3 colonels should be able to faceroll their way on rookie difficulty.

As has been said before, we can't help you if you're only saying "it's difficult" without going into details. I remember awhile back some guy said the game was impossible/campaign cannot be salvaged. So we asked him to send us some save files. It was perfectly salvageable and we were able to point out the things that he was doing wrong. In the end I believe he has improved his gameplay and is having more fun now.

I understand your fustration, I just lost a Ironman campaign lastnight due to one HP left on a Chosen. Had I been able to take her down the mission woukd have ended but I didn't and lost my entire team. The fault was mine but it still stings.

I disagree though.

While I recognize that perceived difficulty is relative and subjective, xcom 2's lower difficulties combined with save games are.....absolutely manageable and not at all unfair on any level.

You get massive aim bonus on lower difficulty, only a smaller number of pods in missions, everything is cheaper, faster, less building time, less research time, enemies have less health. And you can just reload from a few moves before and try out different moves.

Whats so very and impossibly hard to walk up to a pod and use grenades and blow the entire pod up?

I think its a troll post.

Cause cmon now....saying rookie with save games is too hard?!

Seroiusly?

Nah.

Thats just weird. Its easy. For ppl that are very new and inexperienced they made a very easy mode and that is rookie and with save games its super easy. In fact, its too ez and kinda kills the fun.

Stating its impossibly hard on rookie is just trolling. I dont know what else it could be.
