XCOM 2

War of the Chosen difficulty is a little much
Okay, I was having a blast trying out WoC last night, even after the bs that is the assassin showed up and made me save scum for 15 minutes.
I can live with the fact that a swarm of lost shows up every single time I throw a grenade, they are not too difficult to deal with.
When I am looking at 12 lost on the screen along with an advent officer, 4 troopers and a sectoid while I am trying to tag supply crates and the assassin decides to pop in just for fun, then advent picks up 2 crates per turn to my 1 in 8 turns, I tend to get a little salty.
I understand that xcom is supposed to be fighting at a disadvantage but come on. This isn't even fun.
If I wanted to play a game against insurmountable odds I would get into politics!!!

Well early game, you will get beaten up by the chosens, the best way to deal with it is allow them to extract intel from one of your dazed soldiers, this will cause them leave and they won't destroy the rest of your squad.
One negative to that is of course they could capture that soldier if you're not carfull and they will gain more knowledge about the position of the Avenger, so once you get magnetic weapons and armour you can start fighting them without getting your squad wiped

Thanks for the tip!

Just like vanilla as you play WOTC you will find it easier. Watch where the assassin runs to, battle scanners or the specialist perk that scans can be useful. WOTC is tougher but so are your soldiers.

Also that mission with the crate, early on, it you get two or three of them you are doing fine.

Build the resistance ring early (after the guerilla ops if you can)

The turn limit is suspended when the Chosen show up

As said with the crates, you don't have to get all of them.

Well, only while you're actively engaged with them. If they're out of sight and not bothering you, that doesn't count.

Yeah the assassin is a bit easier to deal with now that I have some upgrades.
Still think they are a bit OP.

Well - the chosen are supposed to be a bit OP. You are supposed to say "oh no" every time one shows up, and supposed to say "hah, got yah, yah shmo" when you finally end one for good. Also, you are supposed to use much fouler language than what I did in my examples.

WotC was somewhat less hard when I finally got around to building the Training center and realized I could give my soldiers a bunch of perks.

you can give them ALL the perks of their native class and three random AWC perks.

cost is pretty expensive but there are classes that get really powerful with this, you can give your grenadier Holotarget without gimping his grenades, you can give your specialist medical protocol and combat protocol.

and of course you can get some Perks from the AWC list to make your soldiers even stronger.

there are other things but yeah the training center was the thing that drove my force multiplier way up

The lost can be abit op at times, esp when they seem to want to target you and not the advent, so you have both sides attacking you as well and the fast ones can have alot of health.

The chosen I haven't really found to be a problem, the assassin usually comes straight to you and is easy to kill. The warlock stays as far away as possible until nearly everything else is dead, then comes in and is usually easy to kill. The hunter is a chicken and likes to hang around mid-distance, but you can use his ai against him and just hide in a room and he'll walk right into your ambush.

Only other times I feel like I'm getting bushwhacked is when the game messes up the spawn and you get like 24 robots or 24 mutons etc. Then it can be really op, esp if you're in the sewers.

I love those missions.

With the crate missions you can steal the ones the advent have collected. Also if you don't attack the advent, but instead try to lure them to one side, the lost usually attack them and keep them occupied. Just hide in the buildings, use the reapers to scout out the advent positions and lost and sit back and watch the chaos.

Sigh.... every step is becoming a rediculous slog.
5 or 10 reloads per turn is becoming MORE than tiring.
I am starting to regret buying this thing.
Literally every single aspect of the game has become more difficult.
I am down for difficult games but I need to enjoy SOME of it.
I will probably never finish it and I feel like I have been ripped off.

Why are you loading so much, what are you doing wrong?
I mean why do you need to load so often? I assume you are playing on a lower difficulty.
what causes you to load?

Lets try it this way

Game gives you reapers first. a Reaper is a unit that starts with conceal and phantom at first rank.

its advanced stealth means it can't be detected from more than 2 tiles away.

it also gets an attack 'throw claymore' which doesn't break stealth.

use it as your first action then either shoot it, or more better get the OTHER skill that allows you to shoot cars to blow them up. so the enemy gets near a car, lob a claymore, then shoot the car with the skill. explosion blows the enemies and the claymore also blows up. something like 20 damage.

and you haven't left stealth.

Thats how I use my reaper.

I also got this attack where 'fire at target until it dies or you run out of ammo"

which I use to kill gate keepers and chosen.

you mean to tell me that you don't like literal "nothin personnel, kid" every mission?
