XCOM 2

Experiencing crashes with no apparent reason
So I've recently been trying to run XCOM 2, and invariably crashing right at startup. Checking the logfile doesn't help either, because it returns... Well... This: https://pastebin.com/XGzBBpMu

It's a giant wall of text, and I figure some might not want to scroll all the way down, so I've isolated these lines, which look to be the source of the problem:

Any idea what's causing the problem and what can be done about it? Thanks in advance!

Well the log says it can't find several init files. Did you try verfying the game data?

Three times, actually. I've even uninstalled and reinstalled the game.

Mhm, I keep it plugged in. I'm not sure if I can follow the path since I have no idea what the "\..\.." mean.
How much space do you have free on your pc? I was suffering some not too long ago myself and clearing up some space worked.

Not all of it- Just big games like XCOM 2 and Witcher 3 are on my external HDD.

Roughly 71GB across all my drives.

maybe that's where lays the problem.that Windows can't read those files from the external HDD.

i had situations at work that sometimes windows can't run some instalations(not all) from usb sticks, i can can copy those instalations to internal hdd and run them, while running them from usb stick throws an error. maybe same happens to you with external HDD.

are you using desktop pc or laptop? if you are using desktop pc why don't you add another internal HDD for storing games on it? 1TB HDD are not that expensive. in my rig i have ssd for system and 3TB HDD for storing stuff, and my steam library is on that 3 TB HDD

Yeah, I'm using a laptop. Don't have the space to build a rig quite yet. Anyway, I'll try your suggestion. Fingers crossed!

I was experiencing the exact same problems and I'm 99% sure I've figured out a fix. Basically I used to be able to play each day for about 2 hours before it would crash, and then it would crash every 5 minutes there-after until the next day. Now I've managed to run it all day (at least 8 hours without any crashes) I uninstalled and re-installed the game -- Switched to Fullscreen, Borderless mode -- Turned off V-sync -- Switched the graphic settings down to Medium. I hope this helps and works for you, you could always try without uninstalling, I personally didn't do it, so I wouldn't know if it is necessary!

I've started having load up crashes out of the blue. I played it for a few days when it came out, and started it back up yesterday. It ran fine. But when I loaded it up later in the day, it just crashes before even loading the game.

I've rebooted my computer, verified the integrity of the game files (it said one file wouldn't load, and would need to be reacquired, but I don't know if it reacquired it or not).

Still won't run.

Oh. Well that is not the issue then. A shame I cannot be of more help.
Although since you have not responded to the suggestion, I assume it worked.

Sadly, it didn't. It looks like it's a mod causing it though, since XCOM works just fine without any mods. Given that I just accidentally unsubscribed from all my mods, though, I should be able to do a bit of testing.

Well I do hope you find the reason relatively soon.

I've been having this exact same issue ever since I first installed the game two nights ago. The log doesn't help me either, and well, only verifying a few times manages to make the game launch, once, and if I close it and try to launch it again, nope, won't work.
