XCOM 2
How the heck does overwatch work???
I can't seem to get my ambushes to trigger. I set guys to overwatch while not concealed, the enemy moves into line of sight, my overwatch doesnt trigger, yet i can fire at the enemy next turn without moving. What gives? Doesnt seem to matter if i attack on my turn or wait for them to move to me.

*edit* Definitely not out of ammo either.

I've read that entering the first square in sight does not activate overwatch - that the unit must move between 2 squares within sight, this should happen rarely though.

It's not the first time. I've set overwatch ambushes and attacked on my turn as well, the enemies get a free run to cover while my other 4 guys on overwatch sit there with their thumbs up their butts and wait for their turn to fire. It's really frustrating me to have my guys get shot at first after the enemy has moved to cover and started firing even though they're clearly in line of sight. Not sure what i'm doing wrong...

It's hard, but they could be out of LOS. Only the sniper has long range overwatch, all the others have a small view range. I think their view range is around the size of a full move turn, but not sure.

make sure you are actually far enough forward with your over watchers that they have their own LoS. XCOM 2 doesnt reward overwatch traps anywhere near as much as XCOM the first did though.

Thanks for the input guys, appreciated!

What kind of pleb puts their units on Overwatch? I myself, as an endowed tactician, command my fearless rebels to dash into the fog of war, thus flanking the unsuspecting enemies, and surprising them on my own terms.

Seriously, use your OWs generously, even on timed missions. I would suggest specializing a Sharpshooter with Long Watch, Kill Zone, and a Sup. Expanded Mag. for the best results. XCOM has wonky LoS, and the whole "2 square in LoS", compounded by the myopic range of your soldiers means you are better off hunkering them down, provided there are no enemies clearly in LoS.

Fixed in Wotc. If a guy wants to walk 1 step at a time it will now trigger overwatch. Works both ways.

Pretty much useless, considered you wasted ammo you could had let the pod introduce itself and run to their precious cover and then remove the cover on your turn. In Wotc it's less useful because at raids advent collects boxes before advent moves.

Overwatch doesn't improve with range, consider it because else this happening=

It was a missed shot at range 0 with a pistol in overwatch.

Well of course you missed, you are firing over his shoulder.

Yeah, this game has lots of stormtrooper syndrome. I got a pic of trying to shoot a stunned guy from 5 meters away with a frackin minigun. 49% chance to hit. K.

snake lady has high cover, so -40%. Taking a screen shot at the height of the lean out and hiss animation doesn't change that.

The snake is stunned though, so un-moving. I know how the rules work, its just so glaring example of rules being far detached from reality.

It is a freaking alien snake lady - and you want to play the 'far detatched from reality' card?

You might as well ask - why does everyone stand around waiting for each person to have their turn, or, why is someone like me in charge of saving the earth :p

Ok, I admit, that triggered me until I read the whole thing. Good work :steammocking:

Dude, look - you've stacked everything in the snek's favour. Shooting into high cover with a class that has the worst aim progression using a gun with no accuracy upgrade. Complaining about lack of reality when you're trying to ice-skate uphill is pointless.

there is a skill to remain in concealment.. do your soldiers have it? if so any soldiers with that skill will not overwatch to break concealment.
