Lost and Abandoned off?
When starting campaing you have option to turn off "Lost and Abandoned" what is the exact gameplay effect if you do this?

As disabling core story mission in past dlc changed the mechanics and progression slightly

Two main things - It skips the first 'Lost' mission that introduces the Lost, as well as the Reapers, and Skirmishers factions.
Two, it unlocks the advanced option when you start a new game, so that you can choose if you want to start with one of the factions and get one of their heroes right off the bat.

I recommend turning it off if you've already played the introduction mission on a previous playthrough.

Thanks for that, yea I restarted few times so was curious if was any side effects of disabling the mission long term.

I suspect that not getting one of your soldiers captured by cutscene incompetence will also slow down the chosen a bit (depending on how long it takes you to mount a rescue)

It just disables the mission and and rewards (like a free Reaper in the form of Outrider) and consequences that come along with it Like Mox getting captured and having to rescue him later
Otherwise, if you choose one of the Advanced options to start at one of the resistance HQ's, you'll get one of them at the start as part of your squad during the Gatecrasher mission

A very valid point as well, altho the introduction mission is great for a first playthrough, it does seem playing with it off could be more beneficial overall

It's the same case as the tutorial tbh, where you get 1 squadie oppose to 4 (assuming they all survive Gatecrasher)

isnt the extra ep + additional loot too good to skip?

Sorry but what additional loot? The scientist and Intel? The rewards you can obtain from the replacement mission and covert ops (you can build the resistance ring on day 1) often match it or even surpass it.

If you turn "lost and abandoned" off, then you won't get that lengthy three part tutorial mission (which is actually called "lost and abandoned") with Mox and Dragunova at the end of the first week of the campaign. You also won't recruit Mox and Dragunova or meet the chosen assassin in that mission.

Here's what happens instead:

  • You start gatecrasher with one faction soldier in your squad. This will be randomly chosen and you will start at that faction's HQ, unless you choose a specific one in the advanced options tab, which replaces the random one with a specific one, but has no other effect.
  • The mission that pops on ~Mar 7 will be a standard guerilla op which rewards 1 engineer.
  • The mission that pops on ~Mar 14 will be a council mission with either the lost or horde sit rep and rewarding 1 scientist.
  • The first retalition that pops on ~Mar 21 will feature a random chosen. This can be extremely hard, since you have objectives to complete and don't have the benefit of a 6 man squad that you would have on lost and abandoned.

After that I don't think there are any more differences.

Playing Legendary Bronzeman, and yea this mission was nasty, I killed the chosen, but the civillian casualties was too high so the mission failed.

That said I only lost like 11 income to the region, and all my guys was lightly injured, so imo thats was a win in my eyes due to the AP gain, and NOT giving the chosen any intel :-D

This mission would been lot more managable if it wasn't for 2 Faceless, if they wasn't faceless then Reaper could of gone rescuing everyone, but with chosen present, that was not worth the risk of Reaper getting revealed far from the team, exposing herself to easy intel for the assasin.

I'm getting a nasty glitch where I have NO contact with any of the factions when "Lost and Abandoned" is turned off. Any theories to the cause?

When I do get the mission in its place, it's from a blank screen.
I prefer to have this on since it nicely done addition to the game from story & gameplay perspective.

You need to choose one starting faction on "Advanced Options" when starting a new game. Did you do that?

Honestly, as long as you've got all the loot and bodies from the first retaliation and did not lose anyone important the technically "failed" mission state does not change much, if anything.

I'm pretty sure if none are selected it's randomly assigned. Regardless, I did often pick the Reapers out of habit, but no sign of the Reaper HQ.

Maybe it's because I touched the Config INI files in an attempt to give the Avenger more power/resistance contacts, and that somehow changed it.

Or maybe it's because of my OCD habit of keeping the profile.bin file in check, and using it to prevent my Campaign numbers from going exceedingly high.
