XCOM 2
Volt
Whats the criteria for Volt to jump between multiple targets?

In my game so far, it only seems to ever hurt only a single target, no matter how close other targets are, or how high the casting Templar's focus is.

For me it has worked along as the other aliens were within 4 tiles

Don't take my word for it, but I think it's a die roll, and the occurrence seems to be rare.

I initially thought it was just based on proximity, but had no luck in getting it to proc even with advent soldiers stack right next to each other. Then one time, seemingly at random, I had it proc and watched it basically clear a whole room. I'm pretty sure all of the aliens were more than 3 tiles apart, but could be mistaken.
I have seen several videos on youtube as well, all failing to chain volt damage.

It might be a bug.

Wait its only a random chance? Never using volt so XD
I have stopped using it after continuously failing to damage more than one enemy for 5-6 times across several missions.

Do they have more than 1 focus? If you have enough focus and there are enemi s close enough the game shows the targets it will hit before you fire

Somewhere i read it hits as many targets as you have focus so with two focus two enemies hit and with three focus three.

I'm fairly certain it's focus based.

1 focus, one enemy hit, 2 focus hits 2 enemies if within range, and 3 if you've got the upgrade.

I think that four tile range for the jump mentioned above is accurate, though.

Void Rift is much better with schism. My templar got sidelined once i got a 100 Psi Offense Op.

Volt technically does have that halo-targeting-ish upgrade, and that means you could technically make 3 targets easier to hit for the entire rest of your team AND do some damage...

But yeah, it definatly seems like the Templar's weakest skill. By the time volt might have become a viable option you have the ionic storm that does more damage AND gives focus on kills, and not to mention the always viable rend and move or become invulnable to one attack.

I too was super confused by this. But one thing I noticed, is that if you're going to hit another target, it will actually get highlighted when choosing a target, just like when you're trying to figure out who a grenade will hit! Was very surprised by that.

Other than that all I can say is you do seem to need to have 2 focus for it to jump. I'm not sure but I think having 2+ focus actualy makes it do more damage too, so I'd recommend waiting until you have that before you try it.

Thats useful. Thanks. I will keep an eye out for that the next time I have volt available.

Im not sure if this has been asked but, in the volt damage ini, there are 2 damage list, which is the main damage, and the damage done to psionics. what i wanna ask is if the damage to psionic are additive to the main, or does it replace the main damage
