[WOTC] Research breakthrough on "assault rifles".
So, can anyone clarify if, say, a "research breakthrough for +1 damage on assault rifles" works for ALL assault rifles (ballistic/mag/beam) or just for ballistic?

It works on every Assaultrifel.
There is also Research for Balastic Weapons or Mag.
so +2D is possible

I got a research breakthrough on sniper rifles. Like this randomness mechanic

Its for assult rifles that is all types. Theres reseach breakthough for ballistic weapons that applies for all ballisic weapon types and so on.

I got a breakhrough for Laboratory build time...

lab build time is one of the sucky ones

Don't need laboratory, it's only a distraction like the workshop. Playing legend. You won't have the supplies to build what the laboratory reduced in research time.

I would agree lab is not what I would build as one of the first 3 facilities, but it's well worth it once you have slots to spare.

This. Talemore’s advice is basically true pre-WotC. The buff to breakthrough chance is a significant bonus later on.

I'd rate the bonus to research speed much higher than bonus to breakthrough chance, tbh.

The research speed feels like a bigger deal earlier on... later its just a bit eh as no new project is ever going to be hugely more effective simply finishing a few days earlier.

Some of the breakthroughs are extremely powerful though, it’s great to have them more likely to trigger.

Two extra scientists speed up tier 3 stuff by more than a few days. It's a few days PER PROJECT. That quickly adds up to weeks of accumulated difference.

BTW, +1 damage for beam weapons actually adds +1 dmg on all tier 3 weapons, swords and psi-amp included.

That’s literally what I’ve just said. The point is that by the time this accumulates to anything meaningful it doesn’t actually matter.

Don’t get me wrong, increased research speed is never going to be a bad thing but compared to being able increase the damage of whole classes of guns, instantly excavate sections or slash costs of all proving ground projects then it’s not that big a deal.
