".IMG" BUG

I have a bug that constantly appears. Around 30 minutes or 1H in the game Either pictures of the squadmates or propaganda posters become these colour scale placeholders with .IMG in them.
10 minutes after this starts to appear game stops responiding

Thanks for the advice Nevrim. Signing out of the session keeps me from having to restart the PC and that is appreciated.

Also having the same issue missing poster images and soldier portraits and game freezing on Covert Ops screens.
I have submited a report to 2K and got a generic try this try that response.
But this is clearly a issue so I encorage you all to report this to 2K so it gets some attention.

and as a little tip for when the game freezes and you can't shut it down. If you are on windows 10, hold down the windows key and tab key click the plus icon in the corner to create a new desktop, this will allow you to open task manager, with windows key and X and then end X-Com WotC without shutting down your PC

Broken Images

I installed War of the Chosen and started a new game (with no mods). When my soldiers get promoted and assigned a class, the icon for their class is the "img" rainbow picture.

Apparently, it has also spread to posters that are made. When I try to view them, I get the broken img thing. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, as well as validated, but it still persists.

Could be file permission issues, or AV acting up.

I am having she same problem and the game freezes every 2-3 missions. It never gives me a crash error so I don't know how to fix it. Base game still runs fine without War of the Chosen.

Have you tried temporarily disabling your antivirus and then starting the game?

Sometimes AV doesn't like applications generating new files.

Edit: of course that's not a solution, but can help in pointing where the issue is.

Alright, I'll give it a try. Would setting XCOM 2 as an Exception in AVG work as well? I don't want to have to bring my firewall down when I want to play the game.

Is this a file space issue. Each one of those profile images is 200k and each mission poster is over 1mb. Its not going to take long for that to build up.

Then, please let us know for what folders we have to check the permissions and what folders should be excluded in the scan.

I have tried that and it did not chage anything, also if it would have issue with creation of the files then it would be very peculiar, because I can create the photos and all untill at some point, snap, all goes sideways, so that would suggest it has no issues for some time then it decides it does and it ignores save game files.

How much video card memory / system memory do you have. Does lowering the graphical settings have any effect?

I have got 16GB RAM and GTX970OC 4MB RAM. I did try one playing on Medium just to see if this is the case but it did not other than that on Ultra settings

Yeah, that sounds like plenty of memory. It's strange that logging out of your windows session temporarily fixes it. Suggests (to me) an issue that is best left to their developers to diagnose --
memory fragmentation, or a leak, or some sort of driver issue. Kind of hard to diagnose without debugging tools unless you want to play around for hours with various system configuration changes.

Turned off Avast File Shield and got a straight crash to desktop instead of a freeze on the next covert mission screen... not sure that's an improvement but it's a change at least, so might be on the right track.

Same problem here. Tried running the game in admin, tried to disable Avast but nothing works for now.

By the way, the Propaganda Photobooth app that was released earlier in the month did not save posters for me too.

I could not find any log explaining what's wrong, all i've found is this :
