is this game more online play or singleplayer

never played xcom games before and was wondering if this has alot to offer in singleplayer . i played a bit of the free weekend and enjoyed it .

also i notice that xcom war of the chosen is out in a few days should i wait and purchase this before starting the base game ?

Probably should play without the expansion once. The expansion will have lots of new additions that might leave you overwhelmed.
But you could just go straight for it if you really want to

What I can see from youtube streams (every mission of Christopher Odd is a pure disaster somehow ending with not everyone gettung wiped) it is lot of pain for your money. While it is an additional challenge for veterans who have a lot of hours in XCOM (and I'll probably pick it up later) but I think it could push away players who never played the game. I would suggest play the vanilla game and then pick up expansion later.
