I must admit, having an alien like Alien would give the game a more ... alienlike touch, though.
I'll see how it works out when I actually play the content before I make any real judgement though.
slight spoiler for the ending here:
I'm actually interested in what the Elders are running from. They mention it in the last mission in vanilla, and I dunno if that's them trying to mess with us, or there was something that terrified them so much that decided to mind control whole races while they were fleeing it, to buy themselves more time.
I like the idea that the Elders had a society that had ethics and morals, which might not be the same as our own but similar in how they held them. The Darkness or whatever came and they felt the need to abandon them because of survival.
Hopefully this threat will have alien threats that are, well alien, and not just either formless black blobs or balls of tentacles/teeth/whatever.
Also im missing the creepy enemy unknown from Xcom1 (especially the music)
Anyway, one must assume that these games are not alien simulators (hey, another potential indie game right there!) and from a pure design/development point of view, they are easier and cheaper than non humanoid animations, gear, vehicles,...
This is what happens when you do not play on the 'real mode' aka Ironman.
With this in mind, i assumed that the "chosen" were exactly that. Humans--like the commander--with untapped potential that were chosen to become something greater.
