XCOM 2

Graze... Graze...
I'm just about fine with seemingly so many grazes against enemies at say 60% chance to hit or under (LW2 Graze band is 8 which I assume is 8% base) But is there at least a mod that disables vs high hit chance ie 90% plus for example. Getting grazes vs stunned enemies sucks also. (I haven't seen a stunned mob dodge yet but it happens in vanilla.)

Seems like I get loads of graze with high hit % then the AI smashes me with a full blown hit at 18% accuracy or something annoying.

I understand I can probably just set the graze band to 0% but I'd rather have something a little more 'realistic' if possible.

Sorry I wasn't clear I set the band to 8 myself, not really sure why just felt like it at start of game. it is 10 by default.

In Vanilla the recipe was simple - play more Rangers. Quite easy to get 100% shots with Phantom+Shadowstrike+Conceal, 2x 100% shots per Ranger per mission was more than enough on Legend.

The Graze Band doesn't mean X chance to graze.

Take a 70% shot, with Graze Band set to 10.

You've got a 70% chance for a hit, and a 30% for a miss, BUT, the graze band will extend 10 (or whatever you set it to) in each direction. Meaning, 10 of your hit chance is converted to graze, and 10 of your miss chance is converted to graze.

So it's actually a 60% chance to hit, 20% chance to graze, and 20% chance to miss. HOWEVER#1, if you roll a Critical, then a miss will become a graze, and a graze will become a miss, and a hit will become a critical. HOWEVER#2, if the enemy rolls a Dodge then a critical becomes a hit, a hit becomes a graze, and a graze becomes a miss.

I set my Graze Band to 5, personally.

Thanks for that I skim read a post on reddit about it I think and missed the 10% in each direction bit. Least it explains why they come up more often than I thought was right.

I would still like to find a mod with a modifier for hit chance but understand that's probably hard if not possible at all to do with the way xcom does hits.

I started totallly save scumming these 3 vipers, ended up disabling grazing band due to stupid levels of grazes on EVERY shot EVERY reload, still got grazes even with it disabled... wtf

If you have more than 100 aim, that reduces the graze chance fyi.

That'd be the dodge mechanic. Even with the graze band disabled, an enemy has a chance to dodge (vipers have a very high one, iirc). If you roll a hit and the enemy rolls a dodge, the hit is converted to a graze even if it otherwise had a 0 % chance of happening.

That said, misses and grazes/dodges should be removed if the enemy is disabled - what, that fainted advent trooper just somehow got legcramps in both tighs that miraculously caused him to flop away from the hit? My elite troopers can't hit a stationary man-sized target 2 feet away with an entire burst of bullets?

Let me quote the Evil Overlord list:
Rule 56: My Legions of Terror will be trained in basic marksmanship. Any who cannot learn to hit a man-sized target at 10 meters will be used for target practice.

Graze band is settable in the game options.

no, the graze cauculating after hit rate system, like 70% chance to hit, 30% chance to miss, if you hit, then the system will cauculting this hit will cause how many damage, there're always 20%-30% chance a full damage hit will become to graze, so even you have 100% hit ratio, your hit will still be a 1-2 damage joke. don't angrue with, this happened all time in every mission, and I think this is the only ture way alien could win over player.
NixBoxDone Jan 23, 2017 @ 6:06am
See above - if you had graze set to zero, did you make sure that graze wasn't caused by the enemy dodging? Afaik that should be the only way to get grazes if you otherwise disable them.

The last three or four missions with snakes were frustrating as hell.

I get that they can get a graze, I do find that concept ok, but grazing 100% shots from adjacent tiles just ♥♥♥♥♥ up every plan you had, and I dislike it a lot!

A snake with 3 hp should not survive a 100% hit chance shot with a shotgun just because it grazed and just took 2 damage.
Numbers Jan 23, 2017 @ 6:38pm
The base chance for a graze is actually double whatever your graze band is because reasons. So if you have it at 8 then graze chance base is 16%. This will be slightly less at shots > 92%. Enemies with a decent dodge chance will make grazes occur more often. For a more detailed explanation of how it works, the link below explains it well.

Turn on Red Fog in the options to make 1-hp enemies (and, be warned, XCOM troopers) completely useless
