Long war Research option questions.
So have been going through my long war game so far doing my normal research method. I keep staring at those new research options. One for research one for engineering. You can research them muliple times. Has anyone researched those yet? WHens the best time to hit that research?

I haven't done them yet, still early, but I think the best time to hit them would be once you get your first or second scientist.

First scientist = -33% research time
Second scientist -25% research time
Third scientist = -17% research time

and after that it gets kinda ♥♥♥♥. So if you want to do them early, you should do it right after the power spike you get from the first few scientists.

Apperantly, researching it acts as a "free scientist", lowering research times as if you had X more (with X being the amount of times you do the basic research) scientists.

I did the basic research thing and the research time for laser weapons went from 17 to 10. So, it kinda helps a little.

But how many days did you put into researching the basic research?
The most important part of the research is that it's basically a free scientist/engineer, which can free up a person to move in as an adviser and help you get past personnel bottlenecks on research. I've had a bit of bad luck on getting scientists to the Avenger in my campaign, so my research was stuck until I was able to complete it.

22 days.

I ended up doing both of them. It is worth it early on. It seems like most research options for weapons and armor get lumped into proving ground. Due to lack of engis and needing resistance coms first, you won't be building any weapons or armor in the first 30 days.

SO after resistance coms i do the research option then hit the enginnering one right after.

15 after first scientist. If you have one to buy in black market, consider investing. It means half the time for any reserach to come before end of month. Actually I had both 1 engineer and 1 scientist but was not enough to not be overwelmed - pity the strategical aspect was going very smoothly. Rookie gives you enough starting supply to go AWC + engineer + scientist route.
