XCOM 2
Is XCOM2 an excellent game on Xbox One?
I game a bit on my PC but its not only me who uses it and the Xbone is the most convenient way for me to game. I've played XCOM1 on Xbone for free and really enjoyed it. I have two general questions. One, is the story a major factor in this games praises from gamers? Would you rate the story of XCOM out of 10? Question Two, are the mods the real star of the game? I certainly have enough time to dig in and put some hours into it. And as an Xbox player that Halo mods looks really enticing. But I'm not sure if I'd play it more than twice. I think of mods as more for big open world games where you really invest yourself into it. And if the tactics and customization are as great as they look than I think the mods don't sound crucial. As I don't think i would have any desire in playing as Mass Effect or anything too crazy.

If someone said they were going to play XCOM2 for the story, would that be a strange thing?

First if your can get the game on console, that is fine too. It seems more stable on the consoles than the PC, depending on your system. Playing for the story? no not at all. Everyplayer is different, some like to progress in the story, some like the tactics, some the crafting, to each his own. If you want a solid review, hit my profile there is one for Xcom 2. I fyou like you can send a freind request and watch us play for a bit.

I play Long War, and my kid plays Xcom2. He made all his heroes superheroes, Punisher, Deadpool, Wolverine etc, using mods and his own designs. I think the best part of the mods are the voice packs. Nothing funnier than Spiderman with Futurama's Frys voice, or The Joker with mark hamils voice. he has a ball and picks nice skils for each, Sharpshooting Punisher with his voice and look, perfect, or a Shinobi/Ranger Deadpool just hacking away with Ryan Renolds hysterical banter.
I play using classic soldiers. some do manga, whatever. However I would not recommend LW if your starting out.
I play expert/ironman and man it can get ugly.

2. Mods the real star of the game. Yes and no, depends on the mods. The fact that you can make them is probably the best part of it, if you have the time. I would read carefully each mod, some are of low quality, some in compatible with LW, and some you need DLCs to use.
You look in the mod comments and you see, hey my game is crashing, I have the chopper bug, whatever, dont use it. However, I added more maps, add new skills, some are over powered but fun to have, even some UI ones like seeing which aliens have loot or stats, I would recommend the LW mission breakdown one if you do LW.
Play Xcom 2 on a normal or easy format till you get used to it. Have fun. If you look in discussions one guys is having trouble playing thinking its too hard. Some good tips there.
Once you get the hang of it. Then expand. LW2, add some mods, build your custom ranks, and have fun.

Xcom2 is an adequate game, but is alot better with mods. Consoles dont get mods, therefore no its not a good game on console.

I cannot play this game without mods.
If mod support was on consoles then i would say consoles are superior... But it is not.

There are still small bugs with controller support on pc version.. Hopefully will be fixed when the expansion comes out. So if you are planning on playing it with a controller and no mods then console is probably the way to go.

Mods add alot though.

What do you do when you play it? I've looked at XCOM1 for a few hours and I like the look of the game and although I don't own many strategy games I do love them. Grew up playing a lot of chess and the like. If you were to boot up the game, what would you play? It sounds like the maps generate in fresh ways. Don't you usually replay the campaign? You would load up Long War, right? Thats what it sounds like most people do that still play. Or is it like just starting up a crazy Mass Effect mod and creating your favorite characters from that game within XCOM (LW or not)) that you would do?

if your PC can handle X2 fine, play it on PC.

First and foremost there's FINALLY gamepad support for PC so you can play it that way.
Secondly, even if you don't use gameplay-altering mods (which are still awesome), there's a ton of amazing high quality cosmetic stuff (tbh most of it is arguably better than the official cosmetic DLC) as well as quality of life moda tyhat GREATLY improve the game's UI and menus.

I play with mods that mostly add additional gameplay related content.. More missions and enemy types.. I just like getting the most out of my purchases.
Things that just make the game longer and more bulky.. just more fun!
I love great difficulty in video games and this game has it.. Although many of the combat mechanics rely on %chance dice rolls there are alot of skills and abilities to mitigate the randomness or completely remove it.. There is alot to learn and improve upon as a player and even more so with modding the game.. There are so many things that can be changed and improved with mods.

I myself am not a fan of longwar because i dont like the somewhat heavy micro managing and repetitive nature of it.. But that is just personal preference and opinion.. There are plenty of people who do not find it repetitive. It adds alot of content and is great for getting hundreds of additional hours out of the game figuring out its own mechanics and playing and mastering it.

I also make my own mods for the game.. So some things i have always wanted to see can come true for me. I have spent nearly 3000 hours playing xcom 2.. Its my favorite strategy game.

The multiplayer aspect of this game is dead.. Hardly anyone plays it and the main game is the campaign mode.
