XCOM 2
Shen's Last Gift is exhausting.
Seriously, how is this DLC worthy, it's a slogfest.

The A.I guy is hillarious.

Hint: Don't attempt the dlc early in the game. Make sure you have a full squad at the least.

Protip:

Just like with the "Alien Hunters Nest" mission, attempt this mission once you have a full squad of six soldiers (as per vanilla) who are all toting Tier 2 armor and weapons. Also opting to go with more Hacking Specialists is also a good idea for this one. Also Bluescreen rounds and EMP Grenades FTW~!

The mission is easy and it's mostly because it's pre-scripted. New ost and julian will make a 2nd entry when you add voice overs to spark. Is there a mute button says the most annoying guy in the game.

Overall it's not a gameplay expansion like alien hunter, but it do add new ways to play where we play at many levels and the mission won't end because you boxed everyone inside an evac zone, like how lw2 plays the majority of times.

Huh. I thought Shen's Last Gift in general was great, the narrative mission in particular being very entertaining.

Was it just the length that puts people off?

Ya i definitely attempted it way too early. With only a squad of 4 and it dragged on a little long for me. I am just glad i made it out with all my characters.

It´sa great mission, but since it´s a bit story focused it obviously won´t be as fun by the 5th time...

Still, it´s a mid game mission (have 5 people in yur team. and mag weapons ideally) so that it won´t take too long, and you will get the Spark while it can still be levelled up enough to be useful. Also, all those targets means that every soldier you semd will gain rank. After you have plasma and lieutenants as the lowest rank... it´s pointless.

I generally found Mag weapons to be unnecessary - I treated it a bit like the old Newfoundland mission in EW and took a mix of rising stars decked out with Bluescreen kit and my sole acid grenade at that point - it went reasonably smoothly.

I love it. Free promotions for everyone!

Never use the SPARKs, though.

I actually did it early and found it easy, tho had some luck... first 2 parts are just basicall running away.

End part tho I froze the boss to allow some mechs to build up while i stripped his armor, then hacked the boss and took control of all the mechs on the map and they all suicide juilian

Same here as they're a bit underwhelming -_-

What I did was modify the .ini file to give their rocket punch a 1 turn CD like MECs. Love my Julian sparks in vanilla playthroughs now.

Personally, I wouldn't start the tower mission until I at least have mag weapons and 5 squad size.

The extra damage from Mag weapons guarantee an mec kill on veteran and sparks are not worth sacrificing a vanilla class spot in your squad anyway.

AP/Bluescreen rounds also make this mission a cakewalk.

The only "difficult" part of the mission is the boss fight in the end though you have Lily with you with her overpowered capacitor discharge.

Fighting the sectopod on the roof with infinite robots spawning every turn is stupid, the Spark unit would be great to use early on just like the MEC troopers on Enemy Within, sadly taking that mission early on is suicide
Harukage Feb 18, 2017 @ 1:18pm
Suicide? Shen is absurdly OP having all specialist's abilities, super higjh hacking stat and rover that seems to be 2 times better than a tier 3 gremlin. She can cakewalk your team through the whole mission. Then you can hack Julian's sectopod and take control of ALL enemy mech and kill Julian with them.

Easy enough to do on veteran early game. That's how I did it first time. Lily is OP so it's not a suicide run.

It's just a bit tedious and can take a long time with ballistics specially if you farm it for kill exp like me.

Don't forget her OP capacitor discharge which becomes a reusable skill (4 turn cd iirc, been a while since I last played it) compared to a normal specialist which is 1 time per mission.

Yeah, I did it early, I got to the roof and then stopped because if it was going to be the same as the last room, it just felt exhausting.
