The length of this game is repeatability. By using a different playstyle, class builds and tactics it changes massively. See people who have 1000's of hours in Xcom.
This has been further extended with all the mod options.
I've always found the XCOM difficulty curve reversed:
- Early game is the hardest in terms of keeping soldiers alive becausr you have minimal tactical options and are more dependant on RNG.
- Midgame is THE juice, when you'e still struggling for resources and are facing significant challenges.
- Late game is an occasionally challenging power trip where you mostly mow through aliens with a roster of MSGTs with plasma weapons, heavy armor and psi abilities on top of that.
Making the last stage too long gradually makes your campaign boring though. Better be done with it and start a new one with ew mods and a higher difficulty.
Replayability is very high. Usually I'll do a play through of the game and put it down for a few months and then play again with new mods to change it up.
I do have over 300 in the first one.
