If you want to enjoy the game and not worry about PCs or setups or whatever, the PS4 and Xbox One versions are the ones to get, if you have a decent PC with a quad CPU and a decent GPU, try the demo and look how it works out. I ABSOLUTELY recommend a wired Xbox 360 gamepad for this title as it worked flawless on the PC version with all animations and all the awesome rumble features.
I think this game was designed for consoles and then just slapped on the PC as well. Alien Isolation on the other hand was designed for PC and then just ported all over the place for the consoles as well.
I am a PC gamer and I would advice people only getting this game if they can run the demo proper and if they have a decent setup, otherwise stick to the console version by any means neccessary.
I originally was a PS gamer and then got into the PC games. I did try the wired Xbox controller for this, but I don't own a Xbox and using the controller as rarely as I do for PC games it's was a bit awkward for me as the buttons all seems more closed in and not as spread out as the PS3 controller, almost as if I need smaller hands *laughs*. The rumble feature was cool, but there were some graphical issue during the Demo FMVs, almost like spotted static boxes and bars at the bottom of the screen or over torch animations. Don't know if that was for the demo version and was fixed or...
The toughest game key-wise I have tried on the PC, for me, would be Thief 2014. That was challenging for me in the beginning because of the extensive controls, but it worked out because I was able to assigned controls to all the buttons on my mouse so that my finegrs weren't playing Twister. (Example: I assigned the cround/sneak to button 4 or 5 where my thumb was, so I could have my hand still at rest while sneaking, instead of trying to force my fingers into an odd angle for a long period of time.). The major of this letdown so far based on the demon (if the graphical errors were fixed) are the lack of support for the mutlibutton mouse and relying heavily on keyboard.
P.S: I forgot to mention I don't have a full-size keyboard. I have a Zippy-741. It's I guess mid-size. Also I currently have a 80GB backwards capable PS3 only and don't own any other consoles. A PS4 may be appearing in the near future...
thanks for assistance!
ps4: 1920x800 30fps dualshock 4
My pc: full hd 1920x1080 60fps motionjoy + dualshock 3 or 4
no brainer
If you are an oldschool PS gamer I am pretty sure you are used to the PS gamepad since that one wasnt changed that much over the generations but give the Xbox 360 gamepad a try with PC games like Devil May Cry 4, DmC, Resident Evil 5-6 and others, you will see how awesome it plays with those.
I still have my old Playstation 2 rumblepad 2 which I hooked up on the PC using one of those cheap USB adapters from Ebay and it plays fine with older games like Metal Gear 2 PC, Devil My Cry 3 SE PC and the PSX emulator but if you want to use it on other games you have to remap everything with Xpadder and what not...
If you struggle between getting the PC version of TEW or the PS3 version, I would say test the demo on your PC and if you get any issues just grab the PS3 version as I am fairly certain it looks like the PC version on medium settings.
Ah, motionjoy. I had actually tried putting that on my computer for a game (which game I forgot) and I did not work at all. I tried three of the controllers I had thinking the controller was damaged or maybe even the cable, but I tried following the tutorial a bit closer for maybe I missed something and I did everything it had said. I can try again and maybe have some luck, but yes I did try Motionjoy before I just gave up and got the xbox controller.
I could give it another shot I guess.
My PC is Windows 7 64bit 1920x1080 with ASUS R7-250X HD Graphics. not sure fps, but I have an LG 20in monitor.
Outcome: It says DS3_Tool is running! Please exit DS3_Tool to Continue. Force quit the process.
Attempt 2: Okay so I don't have a bluetooth adaper, nor would it give a link for one, and I could not get into the Game Control Panel in the DS3_Tool. I have three instruction guides online for doing this. I am trying the Xpadder now.
Update: Xpadder is $9.99. Tried to find a free version and nothing working. Thanks anyway guys. Sticking to the crappy gamepad if I decisde to chose the PC version I guess....
I tried going on PS3 to try the demo and it turns out the network is down. Apparently hacked into for Christmas...
But seriosuly, thank you AlucarD >:) for your input. I will play some other games and get The Evil Within at as later date for the console.
PC all the way unless a game meant for the console gets ported wrong or has issues and then you have to choose what would be optimal to showcase the game as it was meant to be viewed. I have 150+ games on Steam, and nearly as many on console. I pick and choose wisely based on the pace of the game and what controls are implemented. That is why I ask the community for their actual experience.
Glad you're a PC fan, but tell me what you think of the PC version based on your experience and if you ever seen or played the PS3 version.
thanks.
I think the fact that the console versions are missing one third of the picture should be enough of a reason to go with the PC version. There's a part where you have to run away from a shredding machine while navigating the floor in front of you, but the camera is pointing at you, so you barely have any time to react to what's on the floor when you're missing so much picture. It's cheap. That's just one example of how damaging the aspect ratio is.
Also, I find it easier to play with a keyboard and mouse. Firstly, because of aiming. Secondly, because two important functions are mapped to the stick buttons. The light and the inventory. I find that it's easy to accidently click the buttons when surprised or overwhelmed and it has gotten me killed.
The console versions also struggle to maintain 30 fps. The PC version is poorly optimized, but it runs a lot better after the update. I don't notice framerate drops.
The pc version runs better giving the hardware, it can remove the black borders and play ata resolution of your choice. I play at 1440p @ 60fps. I also have the choice of m+k or controller.
The pc release is the best version of this game.
