The Evil Within

The Evil Within

Thank you for the big F U Shinji Mikami!!
I paid full price for this piece of crap only 2 and a half months ago!, I think the 'director' was very much out of his depth with producing this game for the PC market. Shinji Mikami is, IMO, an incompetent puppet who was maybe tricked into putting this garbage onto a PC. Hope he can sleep at night.

The very least he could have done was play the game in front of a desk on a pc. He very clearly did not, otherwise he would have seen the absurd limitations of the:- black bars, control system, head bob (motion sickness), limited FPS (30), pricing etc.

He had the opportunity to really make a mark on the PC 'Survival Horror' market but instead decided to make a console game and then with little afterthought, he made a botched up a crap console port for the PC.

To discount it so early on is a massive kick in the balls to anyone that supported you. I hope you never get the funding to anything for public consumption again.

Two completely different games... Seriously they couldn't get any different. But Divinity is a good game.
it is not about the game but about how the Devs go about making the game... there is a choice of a game you want to play in a style that pretty much everyone agrees is a great way to play. or a game THEY want you to play and becasue of massive bullpoop arrogance they FORCE you to play it in their tiny little 'vision'... (or too much nose snow as it is more commonly known)

The creator has the right to make his game in his vision. I think that is something to be respected. It is when devs try to satisfy everybody that we get crap like COD or something.

Hope that's not the case here ... just downloading. In THIS game, I hope to be able to shoot a few things, though. ;-)

You got this one!? It is awesome. Seriously, I nerded out over this game. You are definitely able to fight more than in Isolation. No comparison there actually. But the gameplay here is really awesome in my opinion. Little bit more 'video gamey' rather than trying to emulate a movie.
you guys dont tget motion sickness?? I think maybe it's like a colour blind think, it only effects certain people??? :magicmushroom:

Looking forward to it. Actually, you defending its virtues in the forum here went a long way in me buying it (just before the deal expired). :-)

Well I hope you find it as enjoyable as I did. There really aren't a whole lot of games like this anymore and I was stoked to get a game that carried some of the older concepts of classic RE. It isnt'a perfect resemblance. It gets a little too close to action in a couple of chapters. But I thought it fit within the games context and it is still far closer to the older RE games than 4, 5 or 6 could ever hope to be in my opinion. It just has more of a good horror vibe. It probably isn't as scary as Isolation but it gets incredibly tense at times and you really do get the sense that you are fighting for your life. One of my favorites from this year.

Got a stomach like a steel trap myself. Only thing that will make me stomach sick is the flu. So yea, I guess it only affects certain people. The view is a way to keep you from seeing everything and allowing the potential for surprise attacks and all that. It is meant to make you feel uncomfortable at times. The older RE stuff brought out tension from mechanics that limited the player. So I guess I am just used to it. That said, I didn't really feel that it got in the way. I thought the view was wide enough. It just hugs a little close to the character but I got used to it quickly and learned to like it.

OK... tell me what you did to enjoy it? was it infront of a monitor (what size) or a TV (what size) what distance where from it? Did you use controller or keyboard/mouse? no motion sickness??? what about 30fps and balck bars etc? I want to love the game.. screen shots look awesome, the artists were great artists, but for some reason it is just not 'clicking' for me.. maybe i'm just to old.. although all other 300+ games i have seem fine.. (apart from Rage) :toilet:

Well, I used a controller. That is a rule for 3rd person games for me. Controller feels better for them in my opinion. I did use my TV and just ran it in 1080. I never get motion sickness...ever. The 30 fps and black bars were patched and are an option now. For my first playthrough I used both and I didn't really feel that the 30 fps was that bad and the bars didn't bug me at all. But those are both options now.

I would probably use the 60 fps and no black bars for my second playthrough just to give it a different feel. The game isn't really going to be for everybody. It was for a niche market that really don't have a lot of options these days. It is a throwback to old horror stuff like early RE where the mechanics intentionally limit the player. Low ammo, player vulnerability and high difficulty were all a part of that. At the beginning you feel extremely vulnerable but by the end you will feel like you can take anything on. I enjoyed it a lot.

Lol, I was really liking Rage until it just...ended. Nothing happened. It ruined the entire game for me.

Ok, i have something to work with. Why did the director with a narrow 'vision' of a 'game' not tell everyone to do this!!!!! So my comment about pc players being only a few inches from screen and getting motion sickness still stands... :pill:

I don't think he intended to lift the aspect ratio. I wouldn't have forced him to do it anyway. The older RE games had extremely limited camera angles and you got attacked from offscreen all the time. I would imagine those would give you motion sickness too. He tried to get the same effect without resorting to that outdated method. Same reason as to why there is no FOV slider, you would be able to see EVERYTHING. It does a decent enough job. It takes balls to try something like that today. So I actually respect it.

If games are an art they are worked on by an artist. They have every right to make the game the way they see fit. People who play games are not making any art, they are experiencing it. Same as an audience that views a movie, a person that listens to music, a person that views a paining, or a person that reads a book. People view the piece the way the artist created it. It is nice when PC users get their options but artistic integrity is still something to hold in a very high regard.

Dude. Mikami is the guy who ruined survival horror with RE4.

could not agree more but people freak out if you say anything negative about RE4 because they think it is the greatest game on the planet. it was an ok game at best and wasnt even a survival horror game. it was an action game.
Again Mikami did not ruin RE, Crapcom did. Mikami and most of the original RE team quit working under Capcom not long after RE4 was released. I think the PS2 version was the last straw to set Mikami off afaik. RE4 wasn't all that bad but it still doesn't hold a candle to classic RE games. It's regarded as the best RE game since they changed the style keeping some elements, similar enemies to those from classic RE games. It's still more actiony than most fans like, too much action and not enough horror or suvival elements.

I like the fact in TEW the gory death scenes are back. After RE4 gory death scenes were censored with decapitation and other gory death occurring off screen. I'd rather play RE4 than RE5 and RE6. I'd rather play the classic RE's over modern RE's. Someday I hope Capcom will hire competent devs familiar with RE games and give us a full ReMake of RE2, RE3 and RE:CV like they did with RE: ReMake. I hope since ReMake is being released on Steam and consoles that eventually we'll get RE0.

Crapcom needs to just go back to classic survival horror and forget appeasing casual gamers. I wish Capcom and Konami would get their ♥♥♥♥ together and give us another excellent Resident Evil and Silent Hill. Even though it wasn't received well by fans I keep hoping we'll see SH: Downpour on PC eventually.

Shinji Mikami sleeps just fine at night and has no concerns about your purchase decision or your butt hurt buyers remorse. You're an idiot for buying any game coming up to the steam sales.
