Any good Survival Horror games you recommend?

I love this time of year. The weather starts cooling off and cool scary movies and games come out. In anticipation of the Evil Within I was thinking of playing through Dead Space. What about you folks? Any cool (survival) horror games you plan on playing this month?

I know this is a tad off-topic, I hope its not TOO off topic and if people feel it is I'll go ahead and delete it. I think it would just be a bit nice to talk about something other than the system requirements. 12 of the 15 topics on the front page at the time of me writing this are some variation of system requirement discussions.

Underhell is a fantastic mod. It's not on Steam and the prologue is definitely more actiony than anything else, but the House hub area and chapter 1 are pretty horrifying. Chapter 2 isn't released yet, but the prologue and chapter 1 gave me a good 10-15 hours of gameplay.

The ps2 was a great system for Survival horror games heres a good list there are a few that i didnt know about so its worth a read

How far are you?

Not far, I did some early game and a little survival mode to get a feel for the video settings, controls, and game. It's great, just don't play on easy or the A.I. goes dumb.

Someone mentioned STALKER. I agree with that. It's low on the "terror scale" as most of the enemies are fairly tame (lots of humans and less-than-terrifying mutants)...except for a couple really freaky baddies...STALKER vets know which one's I'm referring too. But the atmosphere is positively stifling and intense, and scavenging for ammo in areas that are more likely to kill you than reward you are all over the place. It's a little janky and mostly everything is in Russian, but it's totally unique and worth a go, for fans of Survival Horror or no.

Its some of the best sound design I've ever seen in a game and it does a fantastic job of wratcheting up the tension. I love how the music kicks in just as you turn the camera and actually see the creature opposed to action music just popping off and giving away hostiles.

I just picked this up on Origin for $5.99. (woulda bought it on steam but I like having full collections under one roof, Steam doesn't offer the 3rd one).

Last time I played it was on console back in the day. It holds up really well and runs amazing on PC. For sure one of my all time favorites. I wish I could erase the experience in my brain so I could experience all over again for the first time lol.

Amnesia Dark decent is the best horror game.

Silent Hill 1 on Playstation One. You can run it on an emulator like EPSXE. There are guides on youtube how to set it up.
Resident Evil 1 Remake on Dolphin Emulator. Really, really great remake, very easy setup emulator.

Well, lucky for you, you've caught me at good time, willing to exhale my infinite knowledge of said genre.

Anyone with a fully fuctioning brain and a degree can tell you 'The Silent Hill' series (1-3) is leading the front line in survival horror. Keiichiro Toyama not only captured the foundations of the formidable force of survival horror that we hold so close today, but cultivated the golden age of survival horror that followed for so many years (Resident Evil 'the latters not the formers'; Fatal Frame etc etc)

Harry Mason, the protagonist spear headed the anxiety of lust within horror games which i fall temptress to even today. I wont go far too deep into detail as to ruin what is the most "complete" survival game of all time. All that this game requires is a great deal of attention to detail and eagerness.

All in all, this is THE game(s) you need to wet your lips before The Evil Within.

You won't regret it.
