Is anyone turned off by the "Fighting Chance" pack?
I'm incredibly excited for this game, but this Pre-Order DLC (words that hurt to type) has me worried. It seems like this is a ticket out of a sticky situation, or so the pack announces. It gives you stuff like an extra medkit, attribute gel, etc. I was hoping for this to be a difficult, survival-horror game, not a shoot-em-up with scary monster men.

Am I being paranoid, or are others having these concerns?

I felt the same way until I saw gameplay vids. This stuff is a very minor help early on. Hopefully, there will be a way to deactivate it also.

if it comes to it you can always just waste it all

never use however much green gel the pack gives you
never use the double barrel shotgun
waste 3 shotgun shells
injure yourself and waste the medkit
waste the xbow bolts

and done :P

I must confess, this is what's keeping me from pre-ordering it right now. Well, that and the hope that there'll be a 10% off ala Shadow of Mordor as release day draws closer. Barring that, maybe a day-one buy, just to avoid this "helpful" pack.

I've played the demo at EGX. It will be a hard game since in my entire play through I only found 4 bullets and puzzles seem tricky and you don't want to get them wrong. Let alone the bosses that can almost destroy you in a single hit.

no real point in avoiding it

even if there is no option in the menu to disable it, you can still just waste/not use it

and then its there if you decide you do want it

u can probably turn off the pre-order dlc by going to the game right click > dlc > untick fighting chance pack in steam. then it will be like its supposed to be (when the game is released)
i pre-ordered the game bcause i want to play it as soon as its out, not because it has "pre-order dlc" (i bought it on PSN)
i did hear that the ammo in this game is very scarce so prepare to run out of ammo often.

I see your point, but for me to pre-order there should be a compelling reason. Otherwise, I'll just get the game when it comes out like most people do. This Fighting Chance pack is not only an underwhelming incentive, but for gamers who prefer increased challenge rather than a helping hand at the start of the game, it's practically worthless. Don't get me wrong... I understand that some people may like it, so great for them and kudos to the developers for offering something at all. It's just not for me.

Didn't Valve add functionality in Steam to uninstall DLC individually for this very purpose? Try going to one of your games that have DLC, right click in your Library, go to Properties and to the DLC tab. You can uncheck them there.

I think Shadow of Mordor is on greenmangaming with a 25% off voucher.

For those who don't have Evil Within and its season pass and may be interested in getting them, shop around because you can pick it up at a better price, I brought retail version from amazon, and season pass with 25% discount from greenmangaming.

Seems to me like it'll be similar to most preorder items.... gives you a small edge in the very beginning, but you'll outgrow it pretty quickly. Of course, you can always opt to not use it, and it might be of help to people that want to play the game but aren't experts in the genre.

Almost forgot about that feature. Yeah, that should do the trick. Still need a better incentive for me to pre-order though, so I'm holding out until the last day for a *fingers crossed* sale, even just 10% like what was done for Shadow of Mordor. Then I'll jump on it.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, why you people are always bringing themes everyone have already talked about? And no, I personally not turned off by this. Yes it has shotgun, medkit and some other stuff, but as DogMeat said before, most of this stuff except shotgun are really minor. IMHO its indeed a pretty bad idea for pre-order DLC, but for ♥♥♥♥'s sake, no need to overreact, survival horror game or not, its not some kind of a cheat code-thing that gives you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of guns like bazooka and invincibility, its just a small DLC with some extra stuff. Seriously, thats one of the many reasons why I really hate gaming communities nova days, if back then people enjoyed what they get unless it was obviously a complete failure, nova days people just constantly cry and whine about EVERYTHING what's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ possible, extremely overreact and act like that boy-fish with ice cream from one of Spongebob episodes.

^Calm down, my friend. :) I think we should all just relax and chill... the game will be out soon enough. DLC packs, VRAM reqs, etc. etc... what's the big deal, right? I have faith this game will satisfy fans. We're just killing time with all these threads until we can start killing monsters. In game, that is. Despite my nitpicks with the choice of pre-order bonuses, it's still one of my most anticipated titles of the year.

Honestly, this pre order packed turned me on to buying it... Yeah it might be minor but it will still save your ass when your in a sticky situation. It just screams "This game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard and scary as hell!! here a small chance to possibly live, or ♥♥♥♥ up... or live." I miss the ridiculously difficult horror games and really after reading the fighting chance pack yeah im gonna pre order it if I want a small chance to survive... Play on the hardest difficulty and tell me you wont be begging for that pack. Just saying, personal preferance here. Also to mention... once you shoot the enemies they dont stay dead. You have to burn them, so any ounce of ammo I can use to give me some air is extremely welcomed.
