You're lucky. I've tried that but in my case...

The only solution was reloading the last autosave (thankfully it was near of the end)
Dont run and jump. Just go slowly, then let him drop.
who would think that a post from 2016 would save my akumu run. Thank you so much for the solution
This bug is in the game. And this trick still works :D. When you're on the ledge force yourself to jump and then don't do anything, within 2seconds after your jump, the cutscene should will play. If not you need to restart checkpoint.
It seems that this bug happens because you kill Laura before you remove all the fire to the elevator. I did not test this myself out but found a post on GameFaqs, Source: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/711442-the-evil-within/70382481
PD. I hate Laura
There is a chance you will miss it and forced to reload checkpoint as you missed the trigger.....
It seems if you kill Laura in the final room before interacting with the flames that open the escape path game might fail to load in the elevator......
It happened to me a few times always when killing Laura in the final room.
Unrelated Laura hp carries over from room to room.
So you can dmg her to a certain hp treshold and she will teleport away.(can not go below treshold hp).
And you will eventually get a checkpoint around the last room and she will have low hp if you chased her away in every room.

Are you saying if you deplete her 3300HP threshold when she first appears in chapter 10, then in the final fight she'll have only 300HP? That's kind of crazy if that's true.
But Laura min hp will be 1100 in the final if you always caused her to leave from dmg that leaves her at only 200hp if you flame her twice in the final room.
Also, is there any insight into the point of raising crit rate on the sniper rifle? That data suggests not because crits only work as instant kills on haunted and not extra damage and any rifle headshot would do that to a haunted anyway. But I don't think they would have put that crit rate stat in there if it had no purpose, like extra damage on bosses.
So a 100% sniper headshot does 200 dmg killing all basic haunted in the game.
As 150 hp is their max with a few expections with above normal hp.
In theory fat haunted(double hp) will survive a 100% ♥♥♥♥ unless you roll a crit I never tested ingame.
But Fat haunted are much less common and you might as well pistol crit them.
But you can Sniper bypass crit and from those gells raise dmg to 140% and save a little for 160% so you can kill most normal haunted in 1 body shot(some of them wear bulletproof masks).
So Sniper crit is very very weak.
And crit does not work againts sub bosses or bosses.
Kind of don't see why they have that stat in the game if it really does nothing on bosses, so I wonder are we absolutely certain of that. Cheezeit is really good but in his other similar guides he does occasionally come to incorrect conclusions or miss something which is corrected later so that could be the case here unless this has been thoroughly tested.
The weird thing about this is I didn't feel the hit to my resources. Thinking back, I used about:
12 explosive bolts
9 sniper rounds
3 grenades
1 fire trap
3 bomb traps
Which does track with the guide. I still have ~120 trap parts, 6 sniper rounds not counting the ~30 in lockers, and hoping for some grenades when I use my keys next.
